Countywide Fall 2024 Government Internship

Job Summary

This internship with the Collier County Government will provide undergraduate or graduate students with the opportunity to apply their academic learning in a practical setting. Student assignments will be determined based on academic merit, recommendations, experience, and individual interests.

During your time with the County, you will undertake a variety of tasks and assignments that leverage your knowledge. Candidates should be self-starters, motivated, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have the ability to interact with individuals of various personality types. On a day-to-day basis, you can expect tasks and assignments to vary, keeping you engaged and interested. Throughout the internship, you will likely have opportunities to learn different processes, assess documentation, and apply critical thinking and analytical skills to complete projects or assignments. You will engage in activities that further develop your leadership skills, allowing you to actively participate in various aspects of local government management and enhance your understanding of how the organization operates.

This opportunity is a paid undergraduate internship at the rate of $18/hour or a graduate internship at the rate of $20/hour, for a period not to exceed 16 weeks, and will have set beginning and end dates. 

Work schedules can be flexible, based on your academic commitments. This is a temporary position without benefits. Interviews for potential placements are typically conducted once a month. 

Essential Functions

The following functions are representative of what the selected candidate will complete during the internship: 
 

  • Participate in assigned activities that will draw on knowledge and skills learned during your degree program coursework.
  • Work with various technology platforms to research or gather information.
  • Work collaboratively with the assigned team in understanding assignments, complete work within established timeframes and deliver quality outcomes.
  • Utilize reasoning and discernment.
  • Demonstrate professional workplace behaviors including reliability, timeliness, appropriate communication, initiative, teamwork and respect.
  • Engage in the internship as a learning experience.
  • Communicate effectively with the internship supervisor.
