Summer Camp Photographer

About Us:

Camp Starfish is on a mission to create a transformative summer experience for children with emotional, learning, and behavioral challenges. As a Summer Camp Photographer, you'll play a vital role in our office team, creating long-lasting memories for campers and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Candid Photography: Roam the 40+ acres of camp to capture spontaneous moments of campers and staff engaging in various activities, ensuring to reflect the camp's spirit and camaraderie.
  • Equipment Management: Maintain and care for photography equipment, including cameras, lenses, tripods, and other equipment, ensuring they are in optimal condition for capturing exceptional images.
  • Photo Editing: Edit and retouch photographs as necessary to enhance visual appeal and maintain consistency with the camp's branding and style guidelines.
  • Photo Organization: Organize and manage digital photo libraries, ensuring photos are properly categorized, tagged, and archived for easy retrieval and future use.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate and communicate with Program, CST, and our Year-Round Staff to identify key moments to attend to, complete special projects as assigned, and ensure alignment with camp programming and objectives.
  • Creating a physically and emotionally safe environment for campers and staff.
  • Fully immerse yourself in camp life to learn skills like facilitating,  effective communication, and so much more!.
  • Engage in outdoor activities like sports, hiking, high ropes, campfires, boating, and swimming, rain or shine.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work the entirety of the season, including staff training dates.
  • Proven experience in photography, preferably in recreational, camp, or similar settings.
  • Proficiency in digital photography techniques, including composition, lighting, and editing.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with campers and staff.
  • Familiarity with photo editing software.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • A passion for working with children and creating lasting memories through photography.
  • Pass all background and reference checks as required for seasonal employees of an organization working with vulnerable youth populations.
  • One year of college/work/life experiences outside of high school.

  • Physical capability for outdoor activities in the summer heat and specific environmental realities (humidity, wind, bugs, lake water) for extended hours.

Development and Internship Opportunities:

  • Course credit with school assistance.
  • Over 140 hours of hands-on training for working with diverse children. (optional)
  • Paid internship with 15-month Fellowship eligibility for further professional development.
  • Weekly seminars covering Core Values, Self-Regulation, and Restorative Justice.
