Glacier Peak Institute (GPI) is a unique community-based outdoor leadership organization that offers immersive outdoor STEM and excursion programs that allow youth to tap their potential. Rural communities like Darrington are teeming with potential, while also facing compounding challenges—from natural disasters to historical underinvestment and lack of resources for youth education, recreation, and community health. 

Through outdoor adventures and hands-on projects, youth develop creative thinking, problem solving, social and technical skills, and expand their environmental and local historical knowledge. By building relationships between rural and urban classrooms, GPI’s programs encourage connection and understanding, break cultural misconceptions and engage youth from across Western Washington as integral parts of their ecosystems. At GPI, we invest in the tools and experiences rural youth need to harness their full potential and directly contribute to the ecological and economic regener ation of their community. GPI became a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation in 2016.


 

This role is hybrid 3 days a week on-site at our Darrington, Washington office 


 

GPI is seeking a bookkeeper to join our growing team. You will bring your non-profit bookkeeping and QuickBooks experience to become an integral part of our welcoming, community-based organization. Your organizational skills are essential as you will work closely with our Executive Director and other Board Members. 


 

What you will do: 


 

  • Manage and track the institute’s revenue intake which comes for a diverse set of sources into Quickbooks
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and maintain the general ledger.
  • Maintain and utilize Quickbooks for all accounting and finances using best practices in nonprofit finance
  • Manage expense reports to include onboarding team members in the system, processing approved reimbursements and sending to Quickbooks.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and necessary reports
  • Generate timely financial reports and work closely with the external accountant.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll using ADP (hourly and salary) for Washington State only
  • Prepares and makes bank deposits
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends and make recommendations to the organization's leadership.
  • Assist with audits and tax preparation
  • Develop working relationships with staff, board members, vendors, partners and funding sources
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy



 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance OR equivalent work experience
  • Nonprofit work experience
  • Payroll processing experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications and QuickBooks.



 

The compensation for this role is $55,000 - $70,000 and is DOE.
