Communications Fellow (Internship)

Our partner organization, a early-stage investment fund manager that seeks to deliver competitive financial returns to investors, is seeking to provide a high-quality learning experience to a qualified undergraduate or graduate student who, during their summer quarter, will work closely with their investment team to gain skills in the field of venture capital and investing. The program is for a 8-10-week Summer internship to commence mid-June, 2024.

In the role of Investment Fellow, you will analyze investment opportunities, conduct due diligence, review pitch materials, collaborate on investment memorandums, and present opportunities to the investment team for potential investment. Moreover, you will have the chance to meet entrepreneurs and engage in the startup ecosystem, all the while gaining experience in this exciting field. 

Focus Areas:
Content Development, Marketing & Communications

  • Assist in executing existing and new communication strategies and programs.
  • Develop a social media content and marketing calendar, primarily for LinkedIn and Twitter.
  • Create 3-4 weekly social media posts for VW.
  • Aid in developing and distributing the monthly newsletter.
  • Support the creation of brand materials such as presentations, one-pagers, and website content.
  • Collaborate with team members and experts to produce marketing collateral, including white papers, blog posts, and videos.
  • Monitor and track KPIs such as social engagement and email open rates.
  • Assist in organizing physical and virtual events, including networking receptions and webinars.

Portfolio Support

  • Track portfolio company activities, such as media features and fundraising rounds.
  • Collaborate with the investment team to support portfolio companies as needed.

External Relations & Vendor Management

  • Pitch partners/MDs at VW for media interviews and features.
  • Assist in pitching partners for speaking engagements at events.
  • Support partnership development and liaison with ecosystem players and marketing agencies.

Undergraduate of African descent or students with a specific interest in Africa are strongly advised to apply.

Presently, internships are structured as unpaid because, for the most part, our partners in Africa are unable to offer competitive rates compared to organizations in the US. The students are therefore encouraged to apply for grants/funding from their universities or 3rd party organizations. Here is a link to some additional funding resources.
