Grant Writer(s) - Scope of Work Description

POSITION: The Native Conservancy is seeking to build a cadre of organized, proactive Grant Writers who are passionate about Tribal needs, regenerative agriculture, climate resiliency, and justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity. Grant Writers will engage in a collaborative writing process with the Senior Advancement Team and regional program leaders, which will include creating a portfolio of funding proposals, Letters of Interest, grant reports, and other funding-related documents.  There is a possibility of the contracts being considered for permanent placement within the Advancement Team if mutually agreed upon.  Weekly commitments are flexible and mutually agreed upon. 

RATE: $40/hour

ABOUT THE NATIVE CONSERVANCY: Since 2003, Native Conservancy has worked to permanently protect, preserve and restore the rights to Indigenous life and self determination. Our vision is for Alaska Natives to thrive by securing access to their ancestral waters & homelands and advancing food sovereignty programs and successful ocean farming. 

Native Conservancy’s core programming focuses on OceanBack (regenerative seaweed ocean farming on ancestral waters), LandBack (reclaiming, restoring, and protecting ancestral lands), Reclaiming Land & Water Ties (Native Food Sovereignty), and Culture (reclaiming language and cultural practices).  

CONTRACTOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Write, edit, and prepare foundation, government, and corporate grant proposals in accordance with the guidelines and requirements of each funding source.
  • Craft persuasive narratives that effectively communicate the nonprofit's goals, objectives, and impact to potential funders.
  • Collaborate with Advancement Team to gather information and data necessary for grant applications.
  • Analyze the financial aspects of grant opportunities, assess their feasibility, and ensure alignment with the Native Conservancy's financial goals.
  • Conduct research to identify potential grant opportunities that align with the client's mission and projects.
  • Write or assist with grant reporting.
  • Stay up-to-date with available grants from government agencies, foundations, and other funding sources
  • Help maintain the grant submissions calendar, ensuring all submissions including budgets, agreements, reports, deliverables, financial, and other relevant documents are sent to Advancement Coordinator for inclusion in Bloomerang and Google Drive.
  • Attend Advancement meetings as required (time mutually agreed upon).
  • Promote a culture of respect that includes collaboration, learning, accountability, and initiative and fosters inclusive decision-making.
  • Other duties as determined by supervisor.
