JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

 

 

Mosquito Vector Control - Time Limited

This is a Time Limited Position and does not include benefits

Salary: $14.00 per hour

This time limited position will last the Summer Months, (May, June, July, August, and Part of September).  It is fulltime (40 hours per week) and you will be a seasonal employee of Utah County.  The three different areas are as follows:

 

Vector Control/Biker

In this position you will perform field inspections for mosquito breeding sites in the catch basins in Utah County. You will take larvae samples from the gutters and catch basins in the county and then treat the gutters and catch basins from a bicycle. You will need to be able to operate vehicles used by the department. You will track your work on I-Phones, I-pads, and computers. You will have the opportunity to use scientific methods to track and evaluate the work that is being done and give input to improve management practices.

 

Vector control/Sprayer

In this position you will perform field inspections for mosquito breeding sources in a specific assigned district in the county. You will take larvae samples and survey for adult mosquitoes in those areas. You will assess the appropriate insecticide treatments as needed. This will involve using sound judgement of the resources that are available to you for example treatment by Hand, by drone, by ATV or by ULV spraying. You will have the opportunity to operate sprayers and vehicles used by the department. The work you do will be tracked on I-pads and computers. You will apply scientific skills in evaluating the best strategy to reduce the mosquito population and still maintain a healthy environment along with protecting the public from mosquito borne diseases.

 

Lab Technician

In this position you will be working to identify the species of mosquitoes in the adult and larva stages of their life cycle.  You will be involved in setting and retrieving mosquito traps and recording your findings.  You will analyze the data that has been collected and collaborate with the mosquito abatement team to determine the best course of action to reduce the number of mosquitoes in Utah County.  You will be involved in isolating mosquito borne diseases in the mosquito population by using qPCR techniques in a lab setting.  You will also have the chance to present at Elementary schools about aquatic invertebrates.  You will have a chance to develop research studies to help the division have a better understanding of mosquito control.
