Single Family Housing Director

Single Family Housing Director Overview:

Responsible for the overall administration of single-family housing programs and related policies. Leads all activities of single-family housing development, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and home ownership. Coordinates staff to successfully implement housing and related projects funded and approved by the State of Texas, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and other state and/or federal funding agencies.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Leads single family housing program design and implementation, federal compliance, professional development, and strategic goals attainment.

Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates federally funded housing programs.

Coordinates progress monitoring instruments and methods. Reviews program records, goals, and objectives, tracking procedures.

Produces regular progress reports.

Cultivates and coaches’ diverse team of varying skilled professionals and contractors to provide prompt, effective customer service, educate stakeholders of program design, meet federal compliance, and achieve other goals towards the department and County's mission and vision.

Partners with other Harris County departments and external stakeholders to support efficient and effective program execution, ensuring compliance with established guidelines, planning and coordination, and delivering on performance.

Represents the department and County with funders, Commissioners, and other community.

Other duties as assigned.

 Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

Minimum five (5) years direct people management experience.

Licensure:

Valid Texas driver’s license (upon hire)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of federal guidelines and regulations relating to housing and community development, specifically programs funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, or similar programs designed to respond to disaster declarations; research methods and techniques; methods of report presentation; supervisory principles and practices.

Must be able to communicate effectively and accurately in written and oral form and to deal tactfully with all levels of department personnel, governmental officials, the local business community and the general public.

Strong organizational and management skills.

Must be proficient in word processing and spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

 Preferences:

Education:

A master’s degree in the area of public administration, urban planning, business administration, or related field is desired.

Experience:

Experience working in government or other similar large capacity and production entity.

 

 General Information:

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

Full-Time | Grant-Funded

Monday - Friday | 8 a.m - 5 p.m.

Work Environment:

The work is primarily sedentary with occasional required travel to training events or meetings.

The work is performed in an office setting.

No special safety precautions are required.

Physical Demands:

This is primarily a sedentary role; however, working with files is required.

This would require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds and bend and stand as necessary.

 

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
