Transportation Planner II – Goods Movement Planning (Hybrid

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking an entry- or mid-level Transportation Planner to assist in the development and implementation of strategies to support economic development, sustainable development, rail initiatives, transportation safety, and air quality initiatives related to goods movement. The North Central Texas Council of Governments is currently permitting employees to work a hybrid schedule that consists of working part of each week in the NCTCOG offices in Arlington, Texas, and part of each week from home within the Dallas-Fort Worth Region.

 

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conducting components of system and corridor planning studies
  • Researching and working with manager to develop efficient freight planning solutions for the North Central Texas region
  • Conducting data analysis on rail-focused projects including rail/road grade crossings
  • Conducting technical analyses related to safety, operations, and traffic
  • Participating in data collection, maintenance, mapping, and analysis activities
  • Assisting manager in the development of goals and objectives, work plans, and strategies
  • Preparing various presentations and documents
  • Updating website information
  • Planning and attending meetings, events, and workshops

 

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong analytical and technical skills
  • Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) desired
  • Transportation/regional planning knowledge/experience, with an interest in goods movement, desired

 

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods (e.g., transportation planning, city and regional planning, geography or a related area)
  • At least one year of job-related experience

 

Starting Salary Range

Minimum of $48,030.00 – $57,636.00 annually
