The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting and rewarding opportunity within our Southeast Region. We are recruiting for a Human Resource Consultant 1 (HRC1). This position reports to a Senior Human Resource Consultant (HRC4) in our Human Resource Division and is the main point of contact for all HR needs within the Region. Compassionate communication is key in this role as the HRC1 is responsible for using both verbal and written communication to connect daily with region staff as well as other HR Program members and programs across the agency. This position has the responsibility of providing our Southeast Region staff and supervisors with outstanding customer service and maintaining a high level of confidentiality.

Our ideal candidate will have a background in Human Resources, or a Human Resources related field, experience interpreting and applying rules, contracts, policies, procedures, and agency practices, good interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to multitask. Additionally, the incumbent must possess the ability to quickly build, develop, and maintain positive working relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Consulting with staff and providing professional-level human resources services by assisting with workforce
    planning, employee and labor relations, and performance management.
  • Processing all human resources transactions and providing technical support.
  • Explaining HR rules, collective bargaining agreements, policies, procedures, and programs to managers, supervisors, and employees.
  • Provide consultation and assistance in recruitment and selection.
  • Tracking Performance Development Plans and Evaluations for Region staff.
  • Serving as the Region Training Coordinator.
  • Managing the Occupational Health Program.
  • Supervise a Human Resource Consultant Assistant 1.

 

Required Qualifications: 
 

  • Experience in a human resource or related setting.
  • Experience interpreting and applying related statutes, rules, contract terms, policies, procedures, and/or agency practices.
  • Experience entering and/or retrieving data from human resource information or other computerized recordkeeping system.
  • Basic math skills (e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication).
  • Experience in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook with an aptitude for learning new software as needed.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
  • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
