Summer Hunger AmeriCorps Member

FLIPANY is a 501c (3) non-profit, community-based agency that serves to empower youth and adults through health and wellness programs while influencing policy changes for healthier communities. An approved meal sponsor for the Afterschool Meal Program (AMP) and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), a program federally funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), FLIPANY is proud to service Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. Our innovative programs fight childhood obesity and hunger by focusing on healthy food preparation, food security, physical education, and access to food.

The Summer Hunger AmeriCorps Member supports the Healthy Meal Out of School Department, which provides eligible afterschool programs and summer camps with delicious, nutritious meals at their community location. The member(s) will be responsible for activities and tasks related to the operation and oversight of a summer food program including monitoring of assigned summer food sites for compliance with established USDA and State regulations, conducting pre-operational sites visits and/or scheduled site reviews, and monitoring of site records to ensure documentation is completed with accuracy and promptness. The member(s) will be expected to travel and work off site in order to complete primary tasks but will have scheduled opportunities to complete administrative work in office 1-2 days per week. The member(s) may also engage in community outreach and education, as well as perform hands-on activities in partnership with our Public Health department.

Duties include: 

  • Monitor site operations to ensure the site maintains adequate records and that the program is operating in accordance to USDA/FLIPANY requirements.
  • Serve as liaison between FLIPANY and Summer Food Service Program meal sites
  • Complete 1st and 4th week site review reports for all assigned sites by the required deadline
  • Visit all assigned sites as scheduled to examine meal service from start to finish, monitor compliance and review any necessary documentation
  • Preparing reports of sites visits and/or providing technical assistance to sites in an official capacity
  • Suggest corrective actions to Site Supervisors for problems encountered during any scheduled visit
  • Meets weekly with other Summer Hunger Associates and Supervisors
  • Performs other duties related to the Summer Food Service Program as assigned, including community outreach and engagement; attending staff trainings, etc.
  • Work cooperatively and maintain a positive rapport with FLIPANY staff, board members and volunteers.

Qualifications: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • A high school Diploma
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Must have a flexible schedule and available up to 30 hours per week

This location requires a total service commitment of 300 hours.

Benefits include

  • Living Allowance of $3,000.00; paid out biweekly ($600.00)
  • Education Award of $1,459.26; earned at the end of term.
