Six Month Apprenticeship

Join us in rural Maine for a five month educational arts & music apprenticeship program with housing and a stipend included! You will work with us to build the capacity of our nonprofit as we develop an outdoor woodland campus to include campsites, water and electric hookups, showerhouses, cabins, trails, benches and picnic tables, fire pits, and other infrastructure that will be necessary to sustain future operations. You will help us throw a party for 5,000 guests and 150+ artists and artisans, at our existing program --a sold-out music festival and educational music camp featuring roots, americana and bluegrass music--which occurs in the month of July.

Yes, this is an educational apprenticeship, not an hourly paid spot. It includes housing, food, and a stipend. You will live on our small fruit farm, and participate in basic farm maintenance (organic certified) and share a small studio apartment with another young person, and receive a CSA of organic vegetables and eggs, plus bulk food. Most of your $2,000/month stipend can be banked! There will also be opportunities to bartend at our events for serious cash. We work very hard to give you educational experiences in the following:

  • event management
  • carpentry and plumbing (you will build structures!)
  • physical labor in general
  • farming
  • ecology, woods work, environmental science
  • human relationships in business
  • nonprofit organization
  • running a small business
  • building an idea from the ground up
  • entrepreneurship

This is an internship that can serve MANY types of different future careers.

Essential Skills:

  • Able to lift 50 lbs and be on feet all day doing physical labor
  • Comfortable with the idea of being trained to use basic tools in physical labor
  • **we have a long history of teaching women to use power tools, do not be afraid to apply as long as you are physically capable (see above)
  • Able to work and live with the same people every day for six months
  • Able to work without phone in your pocket
  • Able to tolerate a mixture of physical and computer based tasks (no complete preference for either computer work or being outside all day)

We do not accept applicants with pets at this time. We do have many family animals that you can share some love with.

Everyone who works for us must be accepting of LGBTQ+ individuals as we often work with members of this community, and must be welcoming towards others regardless of economic status, gender identity, sexual preference, race, language, or culture ETC.

Our work schedule can be very intense, but we also try to have fun and engage apprentices in community activities such as craft nights, trips to see live music or grab food in Portland or North Conway, river swim or kayaking trips, etc. You will become part of our family while you are here, and will most likely meet former apprentices who return to participate in our events year after year!
