Ultrasound Technologist

The Ultrasound Technologist performs a full range of ultrasound procedures and produces quality diagnostic images. Incumbent processes films, prepares records of service performed, makes adjustments to equipment, report any malfunctioning equipment, transports patient to and from the department. The incumbent works efficiently to maintain scheduled patient appointments and unscheduled patient exams.

 

EDUCATION

Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.

 

Associate Degree in Health Science or equivalent education/experience

 

Graduation from an accredited Ultra sonographers Program


CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE

ARDMS-American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

 

BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:

Minimum of two years as an Ultrasound Technologist in an acute care hospital setting is desired.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

A complete understanding of technical principles, policies, and procedures is required in ultrasonography.

 

Understanding of department and hospital policies and procedures

 

Understands the concepts of:

 

Continuous Quality Improvement

 

Quality Control

 

MSDS Program

 

Infection Control

 

The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members of the diagnostic imaging department, staff members of other departments, and medical staff.

 

The ability to deal with patients from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds in an effective and respectful manner.

 

The ability to perform numerous duties at a given time.

 

Ability to perform ultrasound procedures/examinations with skill, accuracy, compassion, and tact, to maintain records accurately, to follow verbal and written instructions of technical nature, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

Computer Skills – Basic word-processing skills.

 

Maintains a positive attitude.

 

Understands basic statistical methods.

 

Able to adjust in a positive manner to changes in work schedules and assignments based on the need of the department.

 

Capable of effectively utilizing the Hospital Information System.

 

Demonstrated ability to work independently with a minimal amount of supervision.

 

Ability to prioritize and successfully complete their assigned workload in a stressful environment.

 

Follows established department and hospital policies and procedures.

 

Maintains good basic work habits (i.e., arriving to work on time, takes their lunches and breaks according to established procedures).
