Job Title: Social Media and Graphic Design Intern
Reports to: Social Media Manager
Salary: $15/hour with 10 -25 hours per week, generous benefits package
Location: Madison or Milwaukee, WI (Please note: Employment with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin requires residence or willingness to relocate to the state of Wisconsin.)

The Opportunity: As a Social Media and Graphic Design Intern, you will work within the Social Media Team and Design Team to assist in executing the Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s organic social media content: X, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and TikTok. You will help manage the content calendars on all platforms, while being responsive to the news cycle, support graphic design production, and engage with and build relationships with our social media audience. You will report to and work closely with the Social Media Manager to optimize WisDems’ online presence and maximize fundraising, digital engagement, brand awareness, and overall growth for the party.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Draft innovative social media content (e.g. copy, graphics, TikToks) and execute the content calendar while working with the Social Media Manager.
  • Develop graphics, short animations, and other digital content—with guidance from the Design Team—for the Social Media Team, including for our grassroots social media amplification program on the app Reach (content distribution tool), and for other members of the Digital Department.
  • Assist in deepening and broadening relationships with our social media audience by creating short-form video content with a focus on engagement, and willingness to serve as on-camera talent.
  • On-year requirements include working outside of normal work hours; including canvassing and other election preparation as necessary.

  • Writing Skills - Able to draft social media copy on a tight deadline and respond to our audience and supporters representing the party.
  • Knowledge of Social Media Platforms - Can navigate social media platforms with ease and create original, compelling content fitting for each platform.
  • Track record of creating engaging graphics and visuals in multiple formats.
  • Attention to Detail - Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.

Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Extensive knowledge of, and experience using design software - including Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Keen eye on social media trends - Knowledge of the types of social media content that are trending.
  • Video editing skills - Able to edit short videos (e.g. TikToks).
