SIFMA is currently looking for a Summer Intern to support the Corporate Communications and Marketing department in our Washington, DC or New York, NY office.

Throughout the nine-week program, the intern will be assigned specific projects, to be completed by the program’s end and for which they will receive authorship credits. An internship at SIFMA gives candidates hands-on experience in all functions of a comprehensive in-house communications shop, including corporate/digital communications, public affairs, external affairs, advocacy communications, and graphics and design. It will also amplify the student’s understanding of financial regulation and its impact on the financial markets, the industry and the broader economy.

 

Role Responsibilities:

The communications and marketing intern will work closely with the Managing Director, Corporate Communications & Marketing and Vice President, Public Affairs to gain exposure to/support critical communications and marketing projects, including other ad hoc projects as they arise. Congruent to the substantive communications and marketing work, interns will also be able to participate in several career development programs SIFMA offers, build mentor/mentee relationships and shadow core team members in their respective roles. Responsibilities will include:

  • Public Affairs:  draft Press Releases; create media lists, track media coverage, compile media summaries.
  • External Relations: shadow third-party stakeholder meetings when appropriate, monitor and summarize third-party activity, conduct third-party research and attend briefings.
  • Content/Messaging: research and draft messaging documents, including talking points, speeches, blogs, and video scripts.
  • Social Media: execute SIFMA’s social media strategy via platforms including Twitter and LinkedIn.
  • Digital Media: research and update website content; analyze website traffic and patterns.
  • Conferences and Events: execute event marketing strategies, including email and social marketing campaigns; assist with logistical support for events, including press registration.

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in business/finance, communications/public relations, marketing, English/journalism, political science or other related majors; financial markets coursework highly desirable.
  • Demonstrates professional demeanor.
  • Demonstration of excellent clerical, organizational, time management and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical skills including a full working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with social media, ability to learn databases for daily operations.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks/workload.
  • Commitment to provide superior customer service with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients.
  • Shows effectiveness at completing projects, persistence and commitment.

Hourly rate: $18 per hour
