People + Culture Intern

If you are eager to gain valuable experience in understanding the ins and outs of HR practices and processes, we have a tremendous summer paid internship opportunity working as part of our dynamic People + Culture team.

As the People + Culture Intern, you will support a broad range of projects providing exposure and hands-on experience to functional areas, including operations, benefits, talent acquisition, learning and development, engagement, and more. Working closely with our team of HR professionals, you will have the opportunity to engage with team members across the organization, build on your leadership skills and learn the ins and outs of supporting our organizational culture. Position requires the confidence and diplomacy to interact at all levels of the organization. Successful candidates will be resourceful self-starters; have strong communications and interpersonal skills; and work with a high level of accountability and attention to detail.

Ideal candidates include recent college graduates or current undergrad, or graduate-level students enrolled in academic programs related to Human Resources. Organizational Development, Psychology or other Social Science. Must be local to the D.C., Maryland, or Virginia area. The internship will run for approximately three months. Interns must be available between 24-40 hours per week and available to work onsite Monday-Wednesday with the option to work remotely Thursday-Friday.

There is no shortage of interesting and meaningful work to build on your skills and experiences, and we’re proud to say that internships have often led to full-time roles at the National Restaurant Association or National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support on a range of culture enhancement and employee engagement activities.
  • Assist with recruitment and onboarding activities.
  • Assist with HRIS (Human Resources Information System) recordkeeping.
  • Update and create a variety of HR related communications and documents.
  • Assist with various HR projects and research.
  • Attend meetings with team members.
  • Assist in helping plan company events, supporting the Connections Team

 

Requirements

  • Must be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Psychology or other Social Science.
  • Confident, curious, and motivated self-starter committed to continuous learning.
  • Highly adaptable, creative, and analytical.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and deadline driven. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, diplomacy and customer service skills.
  • Highly effective organizational, time-management, priority-setting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to work independently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion while contributing to an inclusive working environment.
  • Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
  • Proficiency across Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and comfortable learning new technology/platforms as needed.
  • Must be able to lift between 5-20 pounds
