Buildings Program Research Analyst

ACEEE, a leading national nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC, seeks an analyst to research energy efficiency and decarbonization strategies in buildings and homes. Position Description:
The research analyst will be a member of ACEEE’s Buildings program, providing a balance of research, analysis, outreach, and some administrative support to multi-sector research projects to scale up energy efficiency in buildings. ACEEE’s buildings program covers a variety of topics: zero-energy and zero-carbon new construction, retrofits, embodied carbon, affordable housing, electrification, workforce development, resilience, and advanced building technologies.
The research analyst will have a variety of research opportunities, working with a well-respected and widely recognized team of building efficiency experts and collaborating with other programs at ACEEE. The individual in this position will also contribute technical assistance to states, localities, and other stakeholders, with support and guidance from senior researchers and managers. The work will include considerations of building science, engineering, architecture, and market transformation in programs and policies (i.e., federal, state, local, utility). The position offers unmatched access to national experts in energy efficiency and an opportunity to develop expertise and experience on one or more buildings’ energy efficiency topics.
Core Responsibilities:
- Conducts research and perform analysis to support evaluation of new technologies and practices, programs and policies to advance energy efficiency in the residential and commercial sector.
- Contributes to analysis and support stakeholder engagement.
- Provides administrative support to Buildings program staff including data collection, data entry, meeting logistics, and program coordination.
- Provides research assistance to projects where ACEEE’s program areas overlap, which may include buildings-related federal, state, and local technical assistance.
- Documents research findings and contribute to reports/white papers/summaries and presentations.
Expectations:
- Highly analytical and attentive to detail. The research analyst will conduct research involving complex quantitative and qualitative data.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills. The research analyst will contribute to detailed research reports, white papers, fact sheets, and presentation materials including formal presentations, webinars, and blog posts.
- Organizational and project coordination skills. The position requires skills in coordinating work on complex, long-term projects. The research assistant should also be able to balance multiple projects and deadlines and communicate effectively with colleagues.
- Strong interpersonal skills and support for diversity, equity, and inclusion. The research analyst will coordinate with many ACEEE staff members on buildings and cross-cutting research projects, external colleagues and stakeholders. They should demonstrate awareness of and respect for cultural and individual values, and treat all with dignity, respect, and fairness.
- Highly motivated, self-starter. The research analyst must show initiative and be able to work independently.
- Tech-savvy and quick learner. The research analyst will need to consult with other ACEEE staff to stay apprised of energy efficiency policies and programs.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, public policy, environmental studies, or related field with at least two years of experience or a master’s degree in a relevant field
- Demonstrated passion for clean energy, green and healthy housing, or environmental issues
- Demonstrated ability to collect and disseminate large amounts of data and information
Strongly Preferred:
- Experience with, or sound knowledge relevant to buildings including building science, engineering, architecture, market transformation, and workforce development.
- Excellent organizational skills including facilitation and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Preferred start date: April 2023. The position is located in Washington, DC, but open to remote work.
Salary: This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the starting range is $54,615 - $68,268. ACEEE’s generous benefits package includes health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage; a 403(b) retirement plan; transportation and bike-share benefits; three weeks of vacation in the first year and four weeks thereafter.
