SUMMER: Vocational Training and Special Education Internship in Southeast Asia

Internship Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Vocational Training and Special Education Intern. This is a valuable opportunity for those who are passionate about working in vocational training and special education. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience in supporting individuals with disabilities in their vocational training and personal development.

Due to the complex nature of cross-cultural education, the intern must exhibit humility, seeking to learn from local educators and support as best fits the needs of the business.

Responsibilities + Duties could include:

-Provide one-on-one support to students in a vocational training summer program
-Assist in creating and implementing individualized education and job coaching strategies for students
-Assist in assessing students, identifying strengths and growth areas, and determining appropriate classroom and workplace accommodations
-Work closely with special education teachers to develop and adapt curriculum materials
-Support students in developing essential life skills, such as communication, problem-solving, and self advocacy
-Collaborate with employers and community organizations to learn about internship and job placement opportunities
-Assist in preparing and delivering lessons and workshops on various vocational training topics and/or best practices in special education, as needed

Qualifications + Skills

-Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program, such as special education, social work, psychology, vocational rehabilitation, or a related field
-Strong knowledge of special education principles and practices and/or transition and vocational rehabilitation and/or human development
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-Ability to work effectively with individuals with disabilities and their families
-Knowledge of various vocational training techniques and resources
-Ability to adapt instruction and support to meet the unique needs of each student
-Strong organizational and time management skills
-Cross-cultural flexibility and adaptability
-Experience traveling abroad is a plus

Additional Information

  • All interns must formally accept and abide by OM USA’s Statement of Faith for the duration of the internship
  • A stipend will be provided to offset a portion of the living expenses, but some financial needs should be covered by the intern or through personal support
  • Pre-Field training happens through online materials and Zoom calls with coaches in the weeks leading up to the internship start date
  • Internships begin in mid-May and go through July

Accreditation

  • Degree Credit could be available upon the approval of your university/college administration
