TITLE Special Education/Preschool Teacher
REPORTS TO Director of Early Childhood Programs
EMPLOYMENT STATUS Full Time (9 month)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION Instruct children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and
intellectual growth needed for primary school in preschool, day care center, or
other child development facility by performing the following duties.

Education and/or Experience Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

• B.A. or B.S. Degree in Education or higher
• Appropriate state of Ohio teaching certificate/license
• Valid driver's license
• Successfully pass a B.C.I. and F.B.I. background check
• Good health, high moral character, and good attendance record
• Language Skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business
periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental
regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure
manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
from groups of administrators, clients, customers, and the general public
• Mathematical Skills. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts,
interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and
volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
• Reasoning Ability. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of
concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability
to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or
schedule form
• Other Skills and Abilities. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and
theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on
division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom
assigned; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
students, peers, parents, and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in
written or oral communication

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Plan individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and
 motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and
using play equipment.
2. Develop and use instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction
of pupils with wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturates.
3. Incorporate technology to the maximum extent possible.
4. Provide appropriate climate to establish and reinforce acceptable pupil behavior,
attitudes, and social skills.

5. Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive
displays, interest centers, and exhibits of pupils' work.
6. Provide individual and small group instruction designed to meet individual
needs of pupils in communication skills, health habits, physical skills, and
development of self-concepts.
7. Observe and document student growth and development.
8. Communicate regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone
calls, individual parent conferences, and home visits.
9. Plan and coordinate effective schedule to meet unique needs of students on their
caseload.
10. Interpret school program to parents in order to strengthen parental understanding
of the individual pupil's needs and the school's role in the pupil's life.
11. Enrich educational program through study trips to community resources such as
museums, parks, and through classroom visits by resource person from the
school and community. Share and interpret these experiences with pupils and
parents.
12. Maintain updated substitute folder.
13. Promote parent participation and involvement in education activities provided
for their children.
14. Participate in preparing and implementing transition plans/activities for students
when appropriate.
15. Prepare daily lesson plans with emphasis on individualized instruction and IEP
goals.
16. Participate effectively in MFE teams for assigned students.
17. Follow due process policies and procedures.
18. Maintain site licensing requirements for the preschool classroom.
19. Effectively oversee the educational assistant(s) under your day-to-day
supervision.
20. Attend to additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

9. Check e-mail a minimum of two times per day.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to
sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb,
or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally
lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must occasionally push items
of 50 lbs. such as pushing children on a bike or moving/rearranging furniture.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision,
and depth perception.
