English Teacher Substitute (12-Week Assignment)

Ransom Everglades School welcomes applications from creative, student-centered, faculty members who are excited about inspiring and supporting students through the study of communication and literature and collaborating with colleagues to build a school culture that prioritizes academic excellence, a sense of well-being, and a community of belonging. The successful candidate will teach in the department. Course assignments will include Forms of Literature, among other relevant courses.

 
Through the English curriculum, students engage with a variety of genres of literature and voices from around the world and develop their own voices in different formats of communication. Candidates should be prepared to contribute to the Department’s ongoing discussions about the place of digital modes of communication, interdisciplinary learning, and research, and be comfortable with the school’s emphasis on inquiry-based, student-centered learning inspired by the Harkness method.  

Qualifications 

● Bachelor’s degree in English or a closely related field
● Comfort using the Microsoft Suite and G Suite platforms
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
● Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
● Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
● Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff
● Familiarity with educational technology and its integration into the classroom
● Master's degree in a field within, or closely related to, Literature or the Humanities, is preferred
● Prior independent school teaching is preferred

The school regularly distributes books for the faculty to read together, and brings national guest speakers to campus to work with the faculty. Every faculty member and student is issued a stylus-enabled laptop computer. Microsoft 365, including Teams and OneNote, G Suite Enterprise Edition for Education, and the Adobe Creative Suite, as well as subscriptions to a number of other platforms, are provided for all faculty and students. Classrooms are equipped with ViewSonic interactive displays.
