Cyber Security Specialist

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Cyber Security Specialist to join our Information Technology department.

The Cyber Security Specialist will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

The IT Cyber Security Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day security of systems, data, and networks. The applicant must have an in-depth understanding of current vulnerability management systems and common security applications.  Conduct software upgrades, document configurations, and system specifications to minimize threats while proactively identifying and mitigating risks.

The IT Cyber Security Specialist will be responsible for conducting threat and risk analysis and providing essential suggestions and recommendations. The professional helps in performing research, testing, evaluation, and deployment of security procedures. The specialist designs security training materials and organizes training sessions for users across the organization. The professional will examine and evaluate security-related technologies and collaborate with the network and systems team to ensure the organization meets our security standards while reporting on risks and areas of improvement.

The IT Security Specialist is responsible for collecting and analyzing data and assisting in eliminating risk, performance, and capacity issues. The Cyber Security Specialists will enforce compliance of service providers with security standards and ensure that enterprise information is secured using best practices.  They will assist in the development and implementation of computer security-related policies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field
  • 2-3 years of experience in cybersecurity

 

Who you are

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in cybersecurity.
  • Extensive knowledge of hardware and networking systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of security frameworks and risk management.
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining firewalls, intrusion detection, and prevention systems.
  • Outstanding analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

What you'll do

  • Assessing the status of company IT, network, and security systems.
  • Designing and implementing security protocols at the infrastructure and endpoint levels.
  • Inspecting and scheduling systems/ technology upgrades and maintenance to avoid vulnerability points.
  • Upgrading security software on company systems.
  • Inspecting and testing the security of our network and systems.
  • Designing a resilient infrastructure that is immune to external attacks
  • Ensure the organization is compliant with data privacy laws as it relates to the ED and Non-Profit sector.
  • Responding to security threats.
  • Drafting security policies and guidelines.
  • Training staff on security protocols.

 

Schedule

  • Monday-Friday
  • Weekends and holidays if needed
  • 4 days in office, 1 day remote - conditional

The annual salary range for this position is $80,000-$100,000 with a comprehensive benefits package including employer-covered health insurance.
