Project Specialist

What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory has established a new Directorate to manage the execution of major capital projects related to infrastructure required to meet plutonium pit production deliverables. This is an opportunity for an exceptional project professional that will work directly with senior leadership to ensure execution of the new Plutonium infrastructure Directorate capital construction project portfolio. The Directorate is at the center of execution of capital projects in and around the Los Alamos National Laboratory's plutonium pit production facilities for U.S. nuclear weapons and is focused on sustaining the current stockpile; providing life extensions of the stockpile; and helping to ensure the safety, security, and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear deterrent. Reporting to the Project Director for Field Execution, D&D and Install this position is critically important to the safe and efficient execution of infrastructure projects. Successful candidates will facilitate and coordinate the field execution, preparatory, and/or planning activities on a project, or designated portions of a project. Plan and coordinate assignments on the project and ensure proper resources have access to the work fronts to include escorting and access coverage for the work location. Carry out responsibilities for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating these assignments and the requisite support to ensure they can be executed in accordance with the project needs. What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:


Technical Leadership

Research, assemble, and/or evaluate information or data from subject matter experts and functional support groups (i.e. engineering or safety) regarding LANL policy, program requirements, industry practices or applicable regulatory changes affecting policies or programs; organize and recommend sound, practical solutions to issues. Resolve field-initiated questions and facilitate exchange of information for execution and planning scope.

Facilitate work front access to personnel, as directed by management, plan or execute field work by providing and coordinating escort services to a variety of controlled access areas for both security and safety reasons.

Technical Excellence 

Provide input to statement of work, schedules, procedures, integrated work control documents, project assumptions and constraints related to project performance application and coordination of field execution work. Experience working in a nuclear facility and or programmatic project work. Knowledge of engineering, procurement, construction and turnover to operations of programmatic equipment. Initiate requests for specialized professional services.

Collaboration and Coalition Building

Resolve issues and provide resolution to a diverse range of challenges where analysis of the condition is required and coordination and collaboration with several stakeholders may exist. 

Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions and provide to management various approaches to solutions to include, plans, schedules and arranges activities in accomplishing objectives that align with project goals.

Personal Leadership

Provide leadership and management in the following areas: work execution, customer engagement and schedule management.

Communication

Communicate issues and recommend solutions to project and functional management as directed and as appropriate.

Compliance and Security 

Familiarity with developing and implementing plans or programs to meet or exceed project requirements, performance measures, regulations, and laws, including the proven ability to do so while operating within a nuclear facility and highly sensitive national security environment.

Education/Experience: This position is expected to be entry level into construction related fields. Three or more years of construction or engineering related experience required.

Desired Qualifications:
 

  • Familiarity in nuclear facility operations or other highly complex, hazardous operations, particularly as it pertains to the Los Alamos National Laboratory Mission.
  • Active DOE Q clearance desired and enrollment in the Human Reliability Program (HRP) is required.
