Job Description
MITRE’s extensive engagements on hundreds of projects as well as collaborations with industry and academia to develop and apply novel techniques for effective and predictable systems of systems.

Our systems engineering work identifies, nurtures, and promotes use of innovative technologies for solving our sponsors’ and partners’ most challenging problems in transportation, aerospace, cyber, AI, mechanical, defense, health, enterprise business and other systems.
As an Intern working in systems engineering, you will work with a team to apply your knowledge and gain experience with one or more of the following:
- Digital and model-based engineering
- Mission and system of systems engineering
- AI-enabled systems engineering
- Agile systems engineering
- Systems security engineering
- Mechanical engineering, structural analysis, thermal dynamics
- Aerospace engineering
Required Qualifications
- Must be a student enrolled full-time pursuing an accredited degree seeking program in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related degree program. Must continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship.
- Knowledge of systems, mechanical or aerospace engineering theory.
- Sustained excellence in academic performance
- High level desire to help their nation solve its most critical challenges
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Systems Engineering tools such as: MagicDraw, Cameo Enterprise Architecture, Rhapsody, Stella, iThink, Anylogic, Systemitool, or relevant SE design tools.
- Proven ability to work independently to learn new systems, mechanical, and/or aerospace engineering technologies, techniques, processes, languages, and best practices.
- Experience with Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and/or Unified Modeling Language (UML)
- Experience with Digital Engineering
- Experience with Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Science & Technology (S&T) capability assessments, trade studies, and analysis of alternatives
- Experience with prototype design
- CAD
- Sustained excellence in academic performance
- High level desire to help their nation solve its most critical challenges
