Comic Editorial Operations Internship

My name is Steph Manuel. I am the founder of TrueFiktion, an education company that uses comics to teach history. TrueFiktion is dedicated to enriching the educational landscape by creating engaging and enlightening comic content that supplements history and social studies curricula for middle and high schools. We aim to empower students with a deeper understanding of the diverse stories that shape our world. I got into the comics from a business and military background and know firsthand how hard it is to break in. I am thankful for the mentors who gave me a shot and took my ideas seriously. I want to extend the opportunity to others that were given to me.

Allow me to provide an overview of our envisioned internship program:

Internship Experience: Our internship program invites students to immerse themselves in the world of educational comics and editorial operations. This includes roles in editing, content development, and project management. Interns will have the opportunity to collaborate with our seasoned teams, contributing to the creation of comic content that not only educates but also sparks curiosity and critical thinking.

We are flexible with the internship structure, but we want to ensure that we provide value to your students and it fits your academic program goals. Below are the key aspects of the internship.

Duration: Internships with TrueFiktion typically span TBD based on your program's academic requirements, but we want to provide students with ample time to absorb the intricacies of our processes and contribute meaningfully.

Roles and Responsibilities: Interns will be involved in various aspects of comic creation, from editing scripts to ensuring historical accuracy and cultural sensitivity. This hands-on experience will be invaluable as they prepare for the professional world.

Mentorship: Interns will work directly with me. Depending on our production cycle, they may work with researchers, writers, pencillers, inkers, colorists, letters, editors, graphic designers, and social studies teachers. This mentorship will offer guidance, constructive feedback, and insights into editorial operations.

Collaboration: We value the input of every team member, including interns. Their fresh perspectives and creativity will contribute to our ongoing projects, fostering a collaborative environment.

Skill Enhancement: Interns will refine their editorial skills, gain a deeper understanding of educational content development, and learn how to communicate complex ideas through the medium of comics. The intern will gain experience learning about using sequential art in non-entertainment use cases. We are a design-thinking-led company. Interns will learn about using design to create products and experiences for consumers. They will also be exposed to business model design.

Networking and Impact: An internship with TrueFiktion offers more than skill development. Interns will have the opportunity to connect with professionals in the education and comic industries, paving the way for future career possibilities. Their contributions will directly impact the education of countless students, opening new horizons of understanding.

We are excited about the possibility of partnering with your university comic program to provide students with enriching internship experiences. If this collaboration matches your objectives and interests, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me.

Thank you for considering this opportunity. We eagerly anticipate the chance to work in tandem with your university to create a brighter educational future through the art of comics.
