Data Analyst (Recent Graduate)

The CFTC is currently hiring under the Pathways Recent Graduate Program. If selected for one of these positions, you will be placed in a dynamic one year developmental rotational program designed to lead to a civil service career in the federal government. You will work with CFTC staff members in one of our Division/Offices on projects and assignments that cover a broad range of administrative and/or mission functions. This job is open to Recent Graduates who have completed a qualifying degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution or technical education program within the preceding two years of application submittal (the two years begins on the date all course requirements are met). Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree due to military service obligation may apply up to six years after degree or certification.

At the full performance level, typical duties include:
  • Applying analytical techniques, automated tools, and data visualizations to large data sets.
  • Assembling and analyzing information obtained from data repositories.
  • Enhancing the existing data flow diagrams.
  • Writing codes using open-source languages like Python or R.
  • Cataloging siloed data for enterprise data catalog.
  • Developing data dictionaries for elements in the data catalog and identify duplicate or similar data.
  • Identifying and reconciling discrepancies from different data sources. 
  • Providing oral briefings and written summaries of analysis-derived findings, results, and recommendations. 
  • Creating presentations for and conducting them for different audiences, both esoteric and general.
