2023 Communications Intern, Ariadne Labs

Ariadne Labs, a joint center for health systems innovation at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, is seeking a talented and motivated Communications Intern to join our dynamic Communications team. As a global health innovation center, Ariadne Labs’ mission is to save lives and reduce suffering. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Newsletter Development: Support the development and execution of our weekly newsletter. This includes conducting research, generating engaging content, editing and proofreading, formatting and design, and coordinating with team members to ensure timely delivery.
  • Website Support: Assist in updating and maintaining the organization’s website, including content updates, optimizing user experience, and ensuring accuracy and consistency of information.
  • Writing Projects: Collaborate with the communications team on various writing projects that align with our programs. This could include crafting or editing engaging blog posts, website news stories, and creating content for program-specific materials.
  • Social Media Support: Work closely with the Communications team to support social media strategy and its implementation. This could include monitoring, posting, scheduling, and analyzing metrics.
  • Collaboration and Idea Generation: Collaborate with staff to generate new ideas, strategies, and tools for effective communication.
  • Meeting Attendance: Attend departmental and organization-wide meetings to stay informed and contribute to discussions related to communications.
  • General Support: Provide general support to the Communications Team as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Background in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or Marketing: Ideal candidates should be pursuing or have completed a degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field. Strong writing and communication skills are essential.
  • Availability: Must be able to commit to working 15 hours per week during the spring semester.
  • Digital Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise and experience in using digital tools and platforms for communications.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Possess excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey information and ideas. Strong interpersonal skills are also important.
  • Creativity: We are seeking individuals who can think outside the box, bring fresh perspectives, and contribute innovative ideas to our communications efforts.
  • Interest in Public Health and Social Impact: A passion for public health, global health, or social impact work is highly desirable. Familiarity with healthcare or public health issues is a plus.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality, error-free work is essential for success in this role.
  • Time Management: The ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment is crucial.
  • Team Player: We are looking for individuals who thrive in collaborative settings and can effectively contribute as part of a team. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams are highly valued.
  • Professional Communication: Ability to communicate in a professional manner, both written and verbal.

  • Proactive and Detail-Oriented: Demonstrates a proactive and eager-to-learn attitude, paying attention to detail and comfortable with a dynamic work environment. Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficiency in Campaign Monitor (or similar email marketing platforms), Google Docs, WordPress, Canva
  • Previous internship or related experience in communications.
Position Logistics:
  • Location: Boston, MA; this role is a hybrid position, with the expectation of working in-office one day per week to collaborate with the team and support effective communication and coordination.
  • Hours: Part-time, 15 hours/week, (5 hours per day/3 days per week)
  • Term: Summer- Fall 2023 (extension possible); start date ASAP
