2023-2024 Marquette University AmeriCorps Healthcare Member- Full Time

Marquette University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, City of Milwaukee Health Department, City on a Hill, and Wisconsin Association of Free and Charitable Clinics have collaborated on a project which addresses mental health access for young adults in the areas of greatest need in the city of Milwaukee. The outcomes of this project include the creation of a community consortium, gaining knowledge on effectiveness and satisfaction of young adults with telehealth and mental health access, increasing awareness and literacy of telehealth and mental health among young adults in poverty in Milwaukee and the creation of a sustainability plan.
 
We are looking for AmeriCorps members to work with us on this project.  Both members will work collaboratively across the universities, health department, and non-profit organization. Members will work approximately 75% of time within their primary location focusing on areas of research, community outreach, and public health and 25% of their time doing collaborative work assignments and project management.
 
Detailed Job Responsibilities in each area are found below.
 
1.       Collaborative Projects
 
·      Participate in consortium meetings, community meetings, focus groups, and survey management.
·      Participate in survey development and focus group planning and coordination. Develop marketing material and generate participation of young adults in focus groups and surveys.
·      Collaborate with consortium partners to conduct focus groups and surveys with young adult populations, providers, and organizations to better understand their experiences with tele-health and mental health in the community.
·      Discover and participate in best practices related to research, advocacy, community engagement, and fiscal responsibility and sustainability.  
·      Develop a final project presentation to be shared across agencies and with the public.
·      Develop leadership skills which are transferable to future employment and education.
 
2.       Community Engagement and Research
 
·      Analyze a wide range of available data to assess the targeted neighborhoods most impacted by mental health.
·      Research and identify the barriers that prevent young adults from accessing telehealth/mental health services and work to develop effective solutions to overcome those barriers.
·      Complete an assessment of existing mental health, healthcare and young adult serving committees, coalitions, initiatives, organizations, advocacy groups in the city of Milwaukee and determine ways to partner with current groups. 
·      Complete a needs assessment that is informed by input from community partners/organizations about their work and current tele-health outlets, with a specific focus on identifying ways to better engage young adults on mental health from their perspective. The needs assessment will be used to guide outreach efforts among COAH’s target population and ensure that the most pressing needs of communities are being addressed.
·      Assist in policy advocacy based on the City of Milwaukee community health improvement plan, specifically the Safety and Violence prevention action team where mental health is a subtopic.
 
3.       Project Management
 
·      Assist with coordinating Leadership Team Meetings through developing agendas, scheduling meetings, creating minutes, communicating with team and managing task list and deadlines. 
·      Assist with coordinating Consortium Group through developing agendas, scheduling meetings, creating minutes, communicating with stakeholders, and managing workflow.  
·      Create partnership communications and coordinate quarterly community meetings and listening sessions.
·      Manage grant and assist with writing and obtaining grants for ongoing funding.  This includes quarterly reports to funder & foundations and a completed grant application.
