Human Resources Partner

Role & Responsibilities
The role of the Human Resources Partner to help align the organizational operational strategy with its people strategy. In this role the HR Partner provides strategic and operational support to senior management in their portfolio during the Employee Life Cycle and supervises and reinforces the employee experience. Core responsibilities are providing support to line management in managing employee retention and preserving a people-focused culture based on analytics data, through advice and coaching on policies and good people management practices and to monitor efficiency in core HR areas. The HR Partner acts as the main point of contact for line managers and employees within their given portfolio.

Project Overview
Medair’s global HR function supports the organisation in the implementation of world class humanitarian aid projects by ensuring that the organisation has adequate systems and structures to efficiently recruit and retain the right people. The HR function is working on impacting Medair’s culture by creating and sustaining a work environment where our values are fully alive and employees is being cared for through a “people to people” model.

Starting Date / Initial Contract Details
July 2023. Full-time open-ended contract.

Key Activity Areas
Strategic Partnering
  • Build trusted relationships with senior leadership and other key stakeholders, including regular contact, visiting programs / departments.
  • Provide strategic advice, coaching and direction to senior leadership and line-managers in line with the organisational People to People strategy
  • Support line managers in organisational change, covering organisational design, team structure, and managing people through change
  • Advise in people management areas such as workforce management, staff well-being, performance management and talent development.
  • Promote Medair’s culture and values, through providing and promoting a culture of feedback; address diversity, inclusion, and work environment challenges and promote behavioural, organisational and cultural change
  • Remain up to date on organisational and department or program strategy, the context of country programs, and employee working conditions
  • Collaborate with the HR Specialists team to ensure that resources, training topics, and new initiatives address the needs of employees and managers.

Employee Experience
  • Provide coaching and advise to management and employees in employee management, including areas of L&D, well-being, recruitment, performance and talent development and employee relations
  • Advise in matters of employee relations, and collaborate with management in handling complaints, incl. matter of ethical misconduct.
  • Act as focal point for employees and line managers in confidential people matters. Ensure sensitive information is managed in a confidential manner and advocate for confidentiality among employees and management
  • Monitor new joiners through the on-boarding and induction process to ensure employees are set up to succeed.
  • Ensure people policies and compensation and benefit practices are applied equitably, balancing employee interests with organisational interests.
  • Collaborate with the Recruitment team in the ROC, and advise in prioritisation of employee movements in an emergency response.
  • Debrief leavers and follow up on feedback given, advocating for organisational learning & improvement.
  • Review and approve monthly payroll for the assigned portfolio
  • Provide timely qualitative customer service to employees and management

Crisis management
  • Be available to advise and support in the management of employees in moments of crisis, incl. supporting medical and emergency repatriation
  • Act as family liaison officer on behalf of employees involved in a crisis, facilitating collaboration between the crisis management team and families

HR Capacity Building
  • Based on an assigned portfolio, strengthen the HR teams in programs and offices through advice, coaching, mentoring, training and support
  • Deliver training to teams, remote and in-person, on relevant topics in collaboration with L&D, Staff Wellbeing, and Talent Development Advisors
  • On behalf of the HR Operations Manager, as required, act as delegate matrix manager for HR in assigned programs and offices.

Innovation/changes
  • Support and lead change management efforts in the HR function and the organisation
  • Champion continuous improvement on key processes, policies, procedures and information systems, through problem solving and new initiatives, in collaboration with the HRM and stakeholders.
  • Lead and collaborate on assigned HR projects, track progress and deliver outputs on schedule.

Qualifications

  • MSc degree in HR or equivalent education (alternatively, a BSc degree in HR with additional qualifying experience)
  • Swiss HR Administration certification desirable
  • Excellent working knowledge of the English language (speaking and writing).


Experience

  • 3-5 years in an HR generalist or specialist position
  • Previous experience in a humanitarian setting is desirable
  • Knowledgeable in organizational management
  • Good skills in relationship management
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Experienced in working in a multicultural team
