NOVA Broadcast Research Internship - Fall 2023

As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of one day each week: every Tuesday. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.
All employees who will be working on-site at any GBH facility and/or attending GBH events are required to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines as defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) unless a request for an accommodation on medical or religious grounds has been requested and approved by GBH.

NOVA is the most popular primetime science series on American television, demystifying the scientific and technological concepts that shape and define our lives, our planet, and our universe. The PBS series is also one of the most widely distributed science programs around the world, and is a multimedia, multiplatform brand reaching more than 55 million Americans every year on TV and online. NOVA’s important and inspiring stories of human ingenuity, exploration, and the quest for knowledge are regularly recognized with the industry’s most prestigious awards. JOB OVERVIEW
Interns work closely with the editorial staff of NOVA’s broadcast television program, including the Science Editor, Researcher, and Producers. Interns work with particular film projects throughout the semester and are invited to join in reviewing cuts for all ongoing projects. Interns gain experience in research and development for broadcast television and learn how NOVA approaches science storytelling from beginning to end. They’ll also have opportunities to learn from NOVA staff about a range of topics including digital video production, media rights and licensing, and audience development.
An important part of NOVA’s mission is to produce science communication and journalism that is inclusive and reflects diverse perspectives of people across the U.S. and around the globe. - Fact-check film scripts
- Research storylines for upcoming programs
- Identify potential sources to interview for documentaries
- Review films for potential acquisition
- Review past films for rebroadcast
- Participate in editorial meetings
- Develop ideas for future programs

JOB-STATUS
Paid Internship $17/hour (Part-time, 20 hr/wk)
INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
GBH internships provide students with valuable work experience and real-world knowledge across many fields of study, from TV and radio production to web design, accounting, law, and other administrative areas.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
- Dates: September 11 - December 1
- Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wifi.
- Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States.
- The internship will be at least partially in-office, with the option to be fully in-office.
