The Forum Network Internship - Fall 2023

At GBH, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of one day each week: every Tuesday. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager. 

All employees who will be working on-site at any GBH facility and/or attending GBH events are required to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines as defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) unless a request for an accommodation on medical or religious grounds has been requested and approved by GBH.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
GBH's Forum Network serves the public with free, online access to video recordings of lectures and presentations captured in the Boston area, delivered by the world's foremost scholars, authors, artists, scientists, policymakers and community leaders.

The Forum Network is part of GBH News. Interns have access to reporters, editors and producers and are welcome to pitch local news stories for any platform. The internship provides the opportunity for a budding digital media producer and storyteller to present some of the best work public media has to offer.

JOB OVERVIEW
The Forum Network Internship will provide opportunities for students to learn about the many aspects of field recording, event production and digital media creation alongside journalists in a vibrant newsroom. The Forum Network Intern will learn camera work, video editing, and social media strategy to connect online learners to relevant, primary source interviews and lectures.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Produce and edit content to post online, culling from incoming and archived lectures recorded around Boston
  • Write for the Forum Network email
  • Work on social media campaigns
  • Pitch and create digital articles for GBHNews.org
  • Develop video shooting and editing skills by covering talks from authors, academics and celebrity speakers

SKILL SET
  • Enthusiasm to create digital media (video and photo editing software a plus)
  • Social media savvy
  • A taste for consuming news and for learning online
  • Experience creating video
  • An eye for photography
  • Experience with video editing software and operation of HD cameras is a plus

JOB STATUS
Paid Internship $17/hour (Part Time 20 hours)

INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
GBH internships provide students with valuable work experience and real-world knowledge across many different fields of study, from TV and radio production, to web design, accounting, law, and other administrative arenas.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
  • Fall 2023 Virtual Internship dates: September 11th through December 1st
  • Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wifi.
  • Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States.
