Catholic Charities Orange, Sullivan, & Ulster - Community Outreach Liaison AmeriCorps VISTA

Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan & Ulster serves three counties that include urban, suburban, and rural communities, and a population living below the poverty line that is lower than the national average. For more than four decades, CCOSU has been working to alleviate hunger, housing insecurity, substance use, and other social determinants of health that impact the marginalized members of our community. Each year, our agency provides assistance to thousands of individuals and families regardless of religion or ability to pay. Services include case management, food pantries, housing assistance, a warming/cooling center, prevention, treatment, and recovery support for substance use disorder, and immigration legal services. To meet the needs of neighbors who are struggling with issues of poverty, it is necessary for potential clients, community leaders, local governments, businesses, non-profits, and other referral sources to be aware of CCOSU’s programs and services. This awareness, and the ability to make referrals, will help those in need receive the assistance and support necessary to alleviate poverty. Increased awareness will also lead to improved utilization, ongoing sustainability of services, and development of new services. As the need for assistance continues to be great, a dedicated and passionate AmeriCorps VISTA on our outreach team will increase communication efforts, community involvement, and program capacity. This VISTA position is a part of Catholic Charities USA’s Family Strengthening Program, a national intermediary project. As a member, you will meet virtually with VISTA Leaders and other VISTAs serving throughout the country, all focused on alleviating poverty.
