Catholic Charities Southwest Kansas Volunteer Coordinator AmeriCorps VISTA

Catholic Charities of Southwest Kansas has been dedicated to alleviating poverty in the 28 rural counties of Southwest Kansas for more than 50 years. Over the last few years, however, exponential needs necessitate that we develop and hone a robust and active volunteer program across all four of our offices. This is where we need you! As an AmeriCorps VISTA, you’ll play a pivotal role with our program teams and help us increase our capacity to help those in need. Your primary responsibility will be to research, develop and implement a compressive system for recruiting, training, managing and supporting volunteers for the direct service programs in the agency. You’ll have the opportunity to research and recommend volunteer recruitment and engagement strategies, including on-line tools. You’ll also be able to develop an engaging volunteer training and support programs that helps volunteers with Catholic Charities feel welcomed, supported and valued in their roles in alleviating poverty and welcoming newcomers. As southwest Kansas becomes more culturally diverse with newly arriving immigrants and refugees from all over the world you’ll be a part of creating a welcoming place. You’ll be able to work with program staff and the VISTA Donation and Fundraising Coordinator to learn the kind of volunteer needs they have and help match volunteers with the appropriate programs and interests. This VISTA position is part of Catholic Charities USA’s Family Strengthening Program, a national intermediary project. As a member, you’ll meet virtually with VISTA leaders and other VISTA’s serving throughout the county, all focused on alleviating poverty.

Member Duties : As a VISTA member at Catholic Charities of Southwest Kansas, you will help end poverty by increasing volunteers and volunteer opportunities. Major duties include working with staff and partners, and researching, creating, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive volunteer program across our offices and service area. Other duties include cultivating relationships and creating a volunteer plan to engage, organize and support volunteers. A four-year degree in business and/or hospitality or similar and the ability to speak Spanish is desired. The ideal applicant should be an organized self-starter who is able to work independently and as part of a team. The applicant should possess excellent written, oral, interpersonal and public communication skills and be able to work effectively with diverse groups of people. Experience with computers is essential.
