Catholic Charities Wichita Marketing & Communications Specialist AmeriCorps VISTA
In southeast Kansas, Catholic Charities’ programs seek to avoid homelessness and stabilize housing by assisting individuals, families, active-duty military veterans and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Pittsburg, Kansas-based team serves an 11-county area in the southeast corner of the state. Southeast Kansas Services focuses on preventing homelessness through emergency rent and utility assistance and case management. SAFE Project works with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault on safety, advocacy, financial literacy and employment so they may attain safety, independence and economic self-sufficiency. Supportive Services for Veteran Families works exclusively with homeless veterans to get them housed and ensure they are receiving all of the benefits available to them. The VISTA marketing & communications specialist will share the story of Catholic Charities in southeast Kansas, raising awareness of these programs so more individuals, businesses, churches and partners in the community will choose to financially support the work of Catholic Charities in the community. This awareness will bring financial support outside of grant funding that is necessary for staff to continue and expand their services, helping more people in need. This VISTA position is a part of Catholic Charities USA’s Family Strengthening Program, a national intermediary project. As a member, you will meet virtually with VISTA Leaders and other VISTAs serving throughout the country, all focused on alleviating poverty.
Member Duties : The VISTA marketing & communications specialist will develop and implement a comprehensive marketing campaign for Southeast Kansas Services with a goal of raising awareness regarding the mission, work and impact of Catholic Charities in the region through consistent public relations. The plan should identify key groups to build relationships with, including Catholic and non-Catholic churches, schools, and like-minded community partners. In addition, the VISTA specialist will work to expand the reach of Catholic Charities Southeast Kansas Services’ Facebook page; assist the director of development in identifying and cultivating current and prospective philanthropic donors; and, support the unmet marketing and communication needs of the entire Catholic Charities – Diocese of Wichita organization. Tasks will include, but are not limited to, writing content for a variety of communications channels; placing advertising & PSAs; and representing Catholic Charities as community events.
