Electronic Technician B – Communications (Audio-Cable) - 2775

This position is assigned to Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida
This position is not eligible for telecommuting.

Essential Functions
  • Perform technical duties in operating, troubleshooting, testing, repairing, calibration, installation and inspection of communications systems, infrastructure, associated test equipment and other related interfacing systems
  • Test and evaluate installations and repairs to ensure accuracy, compatibility and ensure all order/service requirements are fulfilled
  • Perform corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, operations, alignment and installation of (cable plant infrastructure, data, voice, video, and network) distribution systems and the associated end instruments 
  • Responsible for Property Inventory, Control of Supply Parts and Tools, and Quality Assurance
  • Evaluate trouble issues, find the root cause and correct the problem or refer the issue to a higher level
  • Maintain Station and Operation Logs, documentation, and records
  • Work with Electrostatic Sensitive (ESD) devices and confirm to ESD safety practices
  • Provide accurate REMEDY and IMDS (Trouble Ticket tracking databases) preventative and corrective action reports
  • Complete assigned training and assist with the training of others to ensure optimal availability of qualified personnel for daily operations, maintenance, and launch support 
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good ability to understand and interpret schematic diagrams and circuit cards

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees and the public
Required Experience
  • AS Degree in Electronic Technology, or two-year technical school, equivalent military experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two or more years as an Instrumentation Operator Repairer or equivalent electronic technician experience related to the systems, subsystems and operations required to maintain Communications systems 
  • Experience with troubleshooting of electronic equipment/systems
  • Good understanding of data transport systems/network (2.4 kbps – DS-3 broadband multiplexers) including ATM and IP network architecture
  • Experience working on the following test equipment: OTDR, LAN meter, Oscilloscope, Fireberd or T-Berd data analyzers
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with various long-haul circuit technologies to include T-1, DS-3, OC-12, OC-48, various encryption devices and IP Networking equipment
  • Installation and testing experience on one or more of the following copper and fiber types CAT5/5e, CAT6, LC, SC, ST, preferred
  • Experience on one or more of the following systems: TMS-3000, FCC-100s, Orion DRCS, KU Band Satellite Communications, ATM Technology, WANIU, IDNX, Timeplex, Alcatel Microwave and HD-SDI Video, preferred
  • BICSII ITS installer 2 certificate, preferred
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Periodically move, transport, install and position equipment weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Periodically ascend/descend, and traverse work areas at heights of approximately 20 feet or more
  • Security+ CE certification or ability to obtain and maintain certification within six months of start date
  • The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship or U.S. naturalization
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
  • Salary determined by Collective Bargaining Agreement
