As a social media intern, you are responsible for creating and executing a variety of professional and engaging social media and e-newsletter marketing campaigns for diverse audiences that reflect the high-quality standards of the Toppel Career Center. This position requires independent judgment and intermediate to advanced communication skills and works under the direction of the Marketing Strategist and the Director of Assessment & Communication.

Job Duties:
  • Plan, create, write, schedule, and post content for our nine social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snapchat, YouTube, Pinterest, WordPress, and Flickr) and for our weekly e-newsletter
  • Assist in researching and implementing effective public relations strategies to improve marketing
  • Assist in evaluating strengths and weaknesses of all current marketing strategies
  • Use social media analytics for brand diagnosis
  • Pitch new ideas for Toppel to be more accessible and functional for students
  • Develop and implement social media and e-newsletter marketing campaigns
  • Collaborate with internal clients for social media and e-newsletter marketing
  • Document Toppel events via social media

Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Attend appropriate staff meetings
  • Use the appropriate platforms to plan, create, and schedule social media posts, e-newsletters, and other marketing content
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Marketing Strategist or the Director of Assessment & Communication
  • Work 12 - 15 hrs per week in-person, remote, or hybrid.
 
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:
·       Work-Study or Miami Commitment
·       Familiarity with a variety of social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.)
·       Excellent communication skills, including strong writing skills in English
·       Creativity
·       Flexibility and adaptability
·       Ability to work independently
·       Strong work ethic and to respond to feedback quickly and effectively
·       Attention to detail, conscientious, organized
·       Self-improving and willingness to learn
·       Ability to excel in fast-paced team environment

Desired Qualifications:
·       Major in communications, marketing, or related field
·       Knowledge of/experience working with web-based Content Management Systems
·       iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, or Adobe Lightroom
·       Photography, Videography
·       Basic knowledge of Adobe Flash
·       HTML (Adobe Dreamweaver)

  • Your resume
  • The link to the box folder that you created in Step 1 or to your online portfolio
  • Your class schedule for Fall 2023 (a close approximation is fine if you don’t know yet)
  •  A list of other time commitments you have for Fall 2023 outside of classes (e.g., student organizations, other jobs) and explain how those may or may not affect your ability to work 12-15 hours per week at Toppel
  • A paragraph introducing yourself, answering these questions:
i: What is your major? If you haven’t declared, what majors are you considering?
                  ii. What will your class year be in Fall 2023 (sophomore, junior, etc.)?
                  iii. How did you learn marketing/communication? If through classes, what ones have you taken and where?
                  iv. Why do you want the position? What do you hope to gain? What can you bring to the role?
