-- ideal position for students and recent grads with keen interests in promoting books and cultivating an audience for books in the US and beyond, and especially for those who seek a professional career related to books.


Pre-requisites:


-Minimum of 10 hours/week (No maximum)

-Some educational institutions require prior approval before the start of an internship. It is the responsibility of the student to check with their institution to be sure they meet any requirements before they accept a position.

-Extensive Prep to Qualify for Zoom Interview (details provided to applicants who apply as instructed and make the first cut)

-Demonstrated ease and comfort with timely email and messaging communications

 As Books Content Curator, you will have primary responsibility for shaping how the magazine covers the Books world.


  • You will select books happenings to showcase in one or another format on the front pages of the 20+ locations where Picture This Post has an edition.
  • You will conduct email interviews with thought leaders in the books.
  • You will select books happenings to present in our magazine’s unique picture preview format.
  • You will network in social media groups—primarily Facebook—focused on books.
  • Optional—you will create a picture-rich roundup report of high profile US books events.
  • Time and resources permitting, you will work with video producers to create video showcases of books coverage for the Picture This Post Youtube channel..
  • You will be part of the team keeping the books content on the Picture This Post Readers’ Calendar up to date.



More Details on Your Training:


ALL UNPAID– ALL REMOTE WORKERS:

Picture This Post is an entirely volunteer organization, from top to bottom.  Since its inception, Picture This Post has made training college students and recent grads a top priority.  This position will likely provide you far more training than a typical internship, and it will allow you to focus on YOUR top interests always.

Amy Munice, Editor in Chief and Co-Publisher, will be your primary supervisor.     She is a 30+ year PR professional and freelance journalist, and cultural reporter who has penned many hundreds of articles.  She will be your internship supervisor and the author of your future reference for job hunting purposes.

Training sessions are held by zoom—often in small groups—throughout the week and weekend.  Initially you will need to adapt your schedule to facilitate your training.  Once you have the prerequisite skills, you determine your schedule—this is an entirely flexible position time-wise, tailored for those who have one or more jobs and other heavy life loads.


What you can expect to learn and accomplish:


-How an online publication works;

-How to make strategic editorial decisions guiding the selection and mix of content in an online publication;

-How to conduct e-mail interviews and do light touch editing that allows artists to control their own narrative;

-How to create layouts using Picture This Post’s custom automation. (Learning the basics of WordPress and other online publishing automation, intro to how search engines work/html/CSS/image management, plus…)

-Insights into the amazing breadth of books happenings in the USA;

-Potential for making 100's of personal contacts for future job networking;

-Professional communications;

-How to read press releases;

-Time management.

Also, in your cover letter, please include a non.edu (e.g. gmail) email address that will facilitate the magazine adding you to automatic staff updates to help you learn more about the magazine AND also your phone number and your current time zone for purposes of scheduling a Zoom interview/orientation.

-Plan on needing 30 minutes+ to complete prep for the Zoom interview/orientation.   (You will receive an email with detailed instructions on how to prepare.)

-Have 3 professional or school references available to send at a later date, in the final stage of the application process.
