Summary of Position Description:
This role is required to approach the position with Cru in a manner that seeks, individually
and with others, the guidance of the Holy Spirit through prayer. The individual is expected
to approach the job in a way that reflects the teachings of the Lord, demonstrating dignity
and respect for those with whom the individual works, and an understanding his or her
words and deeds are a witness to the faith and mission of this organization.
The Writer/Editor will assist in the composition, production and publication of timely and
effective story-driven written reports for organizational ministry donors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
As an employee with Cru:

● Consistently attend and participate in team and ministry devotional times and in other
activities specified by his/her leadership.

For this role:
• Write vision-casting and results-oriented content for Donor Reporting publications and
recurring Jesus Film Project Development publications. Research contextual report
needs (cultural, geographical, project, etc.) for assigned reports to ensure accuracy and
cultural sensitivity.
• Edit written drafts and design layouts for reports and recurring publications; Edit for
grammar, spelling, style, structure, content and design—according to editorial and publishing
industry standards, ministry guidelines, brand, mission, values, vision and confidentiality.
*Fact-check content to ensure truthful representation of raw material as needed. Meet report
deadlines according to current team procedures.
• Coach and provide feedback to writers. Collaborate with graphic designer(s) to ensure
consistency with the Jesus Film Project brand and excellence in creative vision, design
and practice.
• Evaluate field ministry project information from the Field Information team in a timely
manner, analyzing and interpreting complex information for use in written reports to
organizational donors.
• Collaborate with Donor Reporting teammates and the Field Information team as needed to maintain standards, refine processes and implement best practices, particularly in providing up-to-date field ministry information for Jesus Film Project Development Reps. Meet regularly with other Donor Reporting writers/editors to meet deadlines, share workloads, strategize and sharpen skills.
• Assist the managing editor in providing training opportunities for the Donor Reporting
team, suggesting content, and helping to organize presentations.
• Under the supervision of the managing editor, select, edit and post stories and photos on
the internal staff blog, upholding and supporting confidentiality classifications and
standards for communications.
• Assist the managing editor in keeping Donor Reporting current on editorial and publishing
industry standards and practices, helping teammates learn to apply the principles from the
Jesus Film Project Stylebook and suggesting potential updates to this ministry-wide resource.
• Write and edit other content for Jesus Film Project Development department and Jesus
Film Project leaders as needed, such as proposals, summaries, bulletins, e-newsletters,
talking points and event collateral.

Other Functions (non-essential)

• Demonstrate and model personal spiritual discipline and assist in the development of an
environment on the team where individual team members grow in their own Christian walks. •
Professional development—engage in the Staff Development process, including creating and
implementing a Professional Development Plan (PDP) targeting areas of growth. • Perform
related duties and special projects as assigned.
• Participate in regular meetings for the editorial team, including discussion,
information dissemination and additional training.
• Participate in the annual Christmas calling campaign, making the required amount of calls.

Knowledge of:
• AP Stylebook.
• Writing, editing and proofing for spelling, grammar, syntax, style and story
structure. • Microsoft Office, Google Suite and Adobe InDesign applications.
• Content management/workflow systems (e.g., Trello, Asana).
• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
• Ministry organization, operation, policies and objectives.
• Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
• Editorial design and experience with editing designed content is preferred.
• Mission or intercultural communications is preferred but not required.

Minimum 4 Year / Bachelors, emphasis in English writing (e.g., journalism, creative writing, English),
2 professional writing or editing in the reporting or publishing field. Nonprofit fund development
or marketing experience is preferred but not required.
