Pre-requisites:


-Minimum of 20 hours/week

-Some educational institutions require prior approval before the start of an internship. It is the responsibility of the student to check with their institution to be sure they meet any requirements before they accept a position.

WHAT YOU WILL DO AS MANAGING EDITOR


-Your first few weeks will be devoted to your getting trained in as many Picture This Post functions as possible including mastery of various PICTURE THIS guidelines for 1) Review Writers 2) Content Curators – Interviews 3) Calendar Managers (geographic and by topic). Your intensive training during this period will also include mastery of the online publishing system to prepare review layouts, interview layouts, picture postcard layouts, picture previews, brief placeholder previews and various ad formats for the nascent ad swap campaigns being initiated this summer.

-Your main responsibility as Managing Editor will be to oversee and ensure the workflow of the magazine in a timely way. This will include: making sure that all staff get the tools and training they need to do their jobs and keep the flow of publishing moving without glitches; identifying training needs and helping to create new guidelines; scheduling and/or conducting training sessions for new volunteers on calendaring or layouts; coordinating coach sessions for new writers in the Trial Balloon phases; scheduling members of the review editorial team to do edits in ASAP windows and similarly scheduling publishing assistants for RUSH assignments; coordinating with PR reps etc. to assemble images needed for layouts.

-You will be a publisher of completed stories.

-You will be a super-administrator of the Picture This Post Readers’ Calendar

More Details on Your Training:

ALL UNPAID– ALL REMOTE WORKERS:

Picture This Post is an entirely volunteer organization, from top to bottom.  Since its inception, Picture This Post has made training college students and recent grads a top priority.  This position will likely provide you far more training than a typical internship, and it will allow you to focus on YOUR top interests always.

Amy Munice, Editor in Chief and Co-Publisher, will be your primary supervisor.     She is a 30+ year PR professional and freelance journalist, and cultural reporter who has penned many hundreds of articles.  She will be your internship supervisor and the author of your future reference for job hunting purposes.

Initially you will need to adapt your schedule to facilitate your training. You will also need to coordinate your time to meet with the editor-in-chief during her work schedule for~½ hour daily. For the most part though--- you can vary your schedule as you like.

What you can expect to learn and accomplish:


--Sophisticated understanding of all aspects of online publishing -- from soup to nuts.

-Managing workflows in an organization to ensure timely publication of content—understanding the details of all steps of publication.

-Online publishing automation—from our customized WordPress/SiteOrigin platform. Concepts: plugins; user roles; templates; html; css; how search engines work with online publications; amp implications for layouts; etc.

-Professional communications

-How to read press releases, gaining broad exposure to arts and cultural happenings nationwide.

-How to write guidelines and other tools to build a publishing organization knowledgebase.
