DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW


This position will report to the Senior Manager (Counsel). The Privacy Intern will be a part of Sony’s Global Privacy Section, led by the Global Head of Privacy. The Global Privacy Section is responsible for establishing and maintaining an enterprise vision, strategy and program to secure Sony’s information assets, services, and the products that depend on them, thus, building trust with customers and stakeholders, and protecting the privacy of Sony’s customers and employees.

POSITION SUMMARY


Sony’s Global Privacy Section is seeking a highly motivated law student (preferably a current 2L) with a passion for privacy to support the global team across a range of complex privacy projects. The selected intern will work with subject matter experts in Sony’s privacy team, across the U.S., EU and Asia, on a variety of projects including U.S. privacy state law developments, global privacy-enhancing technology implementation, data-driven digital transformation initiatives and beyond. The selected intern will support the Privacy Section in hosting its annual global privacy forum for the Sony privacy community in June.
The internship presents a unique opportunity to work within one of Sony’s central functions as well as liaise with privacy, legal and business stakeholders across Sony’s diverse range of music, entertainment and electronics companies around the world.
The role involves keeping up to speed with fast-moving regulatory and industry developments as well as legal analysis and research into technical privacy requirements, but importantly offers valuable insight into how such requirements and developments impact business operations and are implemented in practice

This is a hybrid role requiring at least 2-3 days per week onsite at our New York City Office.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


· Facilitate the Privacy Section with activities related to a range of central projects for example, global privacy technology implementation, U.S. state law developments, digital marketing and advertising technology. etc. to support the community of privacy, legal and business stakeholders within Sony group companies
· Assist with the Privacy Section’s annual global privacy forum in June by preparing presentation materials, supporting virtual attendees, handling miscellaneous administrative tasks, and liaising with members at all levels of Sony’s privacy community
· Research, analyze and develop summaries related to various technical privacy requirements and developments for example, state-specific privacy requirements, cookies and tracking technologies, etc.
· Support with the preparation and review of legal, regulatory and industry updates and good practice memos for the wider privacy community at Sony
· Participate in discussions to facilitate planning and scoping of requirements for companies within the Sony group for the deployment of privacy enhancing technology and tooling
· Support coordination activities between Sony companies, Privacy Section and technology implementation teams, including any cross-group co-ordination required for shared deployment of privacy technology
· Review and update draft policies, processes and templates, for example, cookie banner wording and preference centers, data inventories, Privacy Impact Assessments, etc.
· Draft, maintain and review good practice user manuals and guidance for key privacy processes and requirements
· Facilitate the Privacy Section with the organization, finalization and distribution of key global privacy resources including guidance, training and toolkits via the Privacy Section intranet site
· Support project leads with drafting key presentation materials and the preparation of progress updates and roadmaps
· Support with managing, coordinating and tracking of project activities, deliverables and timelines
· Attend key project-related and team meetings and workshops
· Assist with the preparation of meeting summaries and follow up actions following key project meetings and workshops


QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION


· Currently enrolled in a J.D. program (preferably a current 2L)
· Demonstrable interest in privacy law through experience with, courses, trainings, certifications, seminars, etc. or any previous work in data privacy
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel and Forms
· Able to work West Coast Hours

The target hourly rate for this internship is $23.00 per hour.  The individual will be paid hourly and eligible for overtime.
