Editorial Intern
Editorial internships with the American Horticultural Society are open to any college-level student of journalism, English, horticulture, or related fields, and to adults with relevant experience who are making a career change or seeking additional training.
While working closely with the staff of The American Gardener magazine, interns will gain experience in all facets of the editorial and production processes for a national, four-color magazine. Primary duties include researching and writing short articles, proofreading and fact-checking, and coordinating author and photographer submissions.
As part of a broad-based exposure to gardening and horticultural communication, the editorial intern may also be asked to support the communication department’s photography needs and the organization’s social media platforms and website. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in occasional professional development workshops and field trips to prominent local gardens.
Internships are available for three- to four-month periods in winter/spring, summer, and fall. Interns are paid $12 per hour and work a 40-hour week. Priority application deadlines are as follows: Summer (March 27); Fall (July 23).
