Youth Services Librarian – Fruitville Library

Join our team at the beautiful Fruitville Library. Conveniently located off I-75 and neighboring the Celery Fields, the Fruitville branch will also be the closest of our 10 branches to the new Sarasota Historical Resources Center.

Fruitville is a busy, vibrant library serving over 14,000 patrons per month. As the Youth Services Librarian, you'll support a broad spectrum of youth services for families, home school students, storytimes, lap sit programs and tween and teen programming. Youth materials constitute almost half of our monthly circulation!

  • As part of the team, participate in setting unit, library, and system goals, contribute to decision making and evaluation of progress. 
  • Implement standards of service that ensure the prompt and efficient resolution of each inquiry by internal and external customers, delivered with the utmost courtesy and respect.
  • Establish liaisons and perform outreach activities with organizations, agencies, day cares, schools, and homeschool providers in the community to creatively promote library services and facilitate programming and service delivery.
  • Initiate, design, facilitate and evaluate education and literacy programs; collaborate on activities and programs related to identified branch and community goals with an emphasis on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math)
  • Write and develop book reviews, promotional materials, flyers, book lists, and web content.
  • Establish and pursue strategies to stay informed about current and relevant information resources to meet the youth community’s evolving needs.

Fruitville Library has a very active Friends of the Library Group and is well supported by the community.


Work Hours: 40 hours a week.
Fruitville Library Hours of Operation:

  • Monday - Wednesday: 8am - 8pm
  • Thursday: 8am - 6pm
  • Friday - Sundays: 8am - 5pm

Work schedules may vary due to split shifts, rotations, on-call, emergencies, etc.
**Employee may be re-assigned to fill in at other libraries within Sarasota County.




About You

Minimum Qualifications:  
  • Master's degree in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association.
  • - OR - Bachelor’s degree and enrolled in a MLS/MLIS program with the ability to obtain a MLS/MLIS within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications: One-year of experience in library environment.

Physical Demands:  Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. 


About Everything Else

Pay: $42,868.80 - $52,000.00, based on your librarian experience
