Procurement & Contracts Intern

Note: This position is a temporary, limited term assignment. 
The Procurement & Contracts Student Intern performs entry (entry- to routine-level) project work related to analyzing data in Procurement and Vendor E-System (PAVES). Work involves supporting agency operations with a primary focus on gaining practical work experience and business skills for personal development or to satisfy educational requirements. Works under close supervision with limited latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Interns enjoy the chance to get training and mentoring from experienced professionals in one or more of the division’s areas of responsibilities.
 
This position will start June 5th and will end August 11th 2023.
Salary will be dependent upon education level:
Undergraduate (Junior or Senior) - $17.00/hour
Graduate Student - $19.00/hour
 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Procurement and Vendor E-System (PAVES) 
• Collaborates with members of PAVES teams and key stakeholders to optimize overall project goals.
• Conducts research and analysis on various processes to identify problems, and further provides optimization suggestions to improve operating efficiency. 
• Prepares ad hoc reports and queries.
• Assists with the documentation of PAVES system usage. 
• Assists with data review and analysis within the PAVES system.
• Assist with SQL development and error troubleshooting.
• Assists with designing and implementing operational processes to advance and support project goals.
General Functions
• Performs work on special projects related to procurement and contracts.
• Collects, organizes, analyses and/or prepares materials in response to requests for program information and/or reports. 
• May assist in researching, compiling, and analyzing data; entering dating into spreadsheets, databases and other automated applications; and preparing complex queries and reports.
• Provides operational and administrative support to division staff as needed.
• May perform back-up duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
Education:
• Currently enrolled in and actively attending an accredited college or university as an undergraduate student with a declared major in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other relevant program AND within 12 months of graduation; OR
• Currently enrolled as a graduate student (Master or Doctoral) in an Information Technology, Computer Science, or other relevant program.
• Applicant will be required to submit a copy of official college transcripts.
Experience:
• Basic academic or work experience in SQL. 
Registration, Certification, or Licensure:
• None. 
Preferred Qualifications
• Completion of at least 60 semester hours, including coursework related to the specific program area of the internship assignment.
• Letter of recommendation from program professor(s) are strongly encouraged.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
• Databases, including relationships, security, and modeling with the ability to learn and understand various data environments.
 
Skill in:
• Analyzing routine problems and developing workable solutions.
• SQL including the ability to read and write queries and stored procedures.
• Planning, organizing, and coordinating work to effectively meet frequent and/or multiple deadlines; handling multiple tasks simultaneously; and managing conflicting priorities and demands. 
 
Ability to:
• Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, agency staff, and external contacts.
• Work effectively in a professional team environment.
