Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Prospect Development, the Prospect Development Analyst is an integral member of the campus fundraising team. The Prospect Development Analyst is responsible for identifying, researching and analyzing prospects for major gift cultivation and solicitation. This research and analysis serves as the foundation fpr a fundraising campaign and directly contributes to the campaign¿s success. The Prospect Development Analyst serves as a strategic partner to major gift officers to identify and qualify major gift prospects who have the propensity and capacity to support campus wide initiatives and campaigns. This specialized research and analysis facilitates the cultivation and solicitation of top prospects by Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, as well as the deans and directors of academic and medical center units and other senior campus officers. The Analyst also assists the Major Gift Officers with portfolio and proposal management and provides database assistance so that that the Major Gift Officer can focus more keenly on meeting with donors and closing gifts.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Major Gift Prospect Identification: Proactively and independently plan and execute strategies to identify sources of major gift ($25,000+) private support using creative research techniques and electronic searching methodologies to ensure that campus wide fundraising initiatives have sufficient prospects to meet fundraising goals. Develop and execute strategies to ensure that newly identified prospects are presented and assigned to appropriate campus fundraisers in a timely manner. Identify creative, strategic methods to help gift officers engage prospects.

Prospect Research, Analysis and Writing: Research/Analysis/Evaluation: Provide high-level research on individuals, corporations and foundations using a wide variety of biographical, organizational and financial sources, including state-of-the-art online database services, Internet websites, library and government sources and other external repositories of public information. Analyze and synthesize accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity and linkages to campus. Evaluate research results to develop and implement further research strategies utilizing ethical intelligence-gathering techniques of the information profession. Writing: Compose documents (profiles, biographies, project summaries) using style, grammar and content appropriate to specific audiences. Interpret and translate complex financial, legal and corporate language into easily comprehensible terms while adhering to University standards of discretion and confidentiality. Extract and communicate key information which directs cultivation and solicitation strategies. Prospect knowledge, including ratings, interests and linkages acquired through research is preserved and maintained in a complex database system that is accessible to campus wide fundraising staff and used to develop future cultivation strategies.

Strategic Partnership: The Prospect Development Analyst serves as a strategic partner to the major gifts team on matters related to portfolio development and management, information gathering, peer screenings, and proposal management. The analyst reviews and validates wealth screening results and provides direction on segmentation and management of large groups of prospects identified in support the comprehensive campaign. Provide orientation sessions on research methodologies and resources to fundraisers and other PAE units. Efficiently monitor major gift prospects and maintain an active awareness of the important news and events involving them. Review contact reports of gift officers to ensure information is recorded appropriately and for any updates to constituent records. Serve as a liaison between gift officers and Information Data Services.

Other Duties: Help with work related to the campus-wide prospect management and tracking system as needed. Work in a team environment with the PAE Operations Team, Major Gifts Team, Annual Giving Team, and Alumni and Donor Engagement Team to train staff on prospect research methods and practices and to participate in PAE events and activities, as available. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with three or more years experience in prospect development or related field, or 5 years overall professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in Internet research; Experience with information resources and online services (i.e. Google, or other database software); Previous fundraising experience and/or a background in a non-profit or educational institution; Previous experience with Blackbaud suite of products, including Raiser's Edge, NXT, ResearchPoint and Fundraiser

Performance Management; Previous experience with Lexis-Nexis on-line research service is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.; Demonstrated analytical skills to initiate and perform complex analyses and organize information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships among individuals, corporations and foundations; Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial disclosure documents for the purposes of wealth assessment (SEC filings, real property files, financial and legal disclosures, etc.); Ability to recall, recognize and communicate interrelated information pertaining to donors and prospects; Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work and independently manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities while meeting deadlines.

KNOWLEDGE

Demonstrated experience in prospect research, fundraising, library research or information related field preferably in a higher education environment. Knowledge of the range of resources available to prospect researchers and the ability to apply those resources in an organized and purposeful manner; General fundraising knowledge, including proficiency at supporting and participating in prospect management and tracking processes and staying informed of trends in the field. Ability to acquire and retain knowledge of ethics statements by APRA and Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

SKILLS

Strong computer skills and demonstrated background in Internet-based research; Experience working with a relational database, as well as the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Excel. Ability to download and export information between systems; Excellent oral and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy required to function effectively among campus fundraisers, high-level campus administrators, volunteers and other constituencies to bring large-scale projects to completion; Ability to work in a team environment and to articulate complex information in a format which is comprehensible to a diverse audience; Strong project management skills and problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to work in a demanding environment; Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals and to respond flexibly and positively in difficult circumstances.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Grade: 18

Salary: $48,341/annually - $58,500/annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
