Job Summary
Develops and implements a community liaison program for the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission. Assists the Parks Commission and Parks leadership in communicating information concerning department programs and operations to local government officials and agencies. Provide assistance to the Supervisor of Marketing & Communications with performing research, preparing presentations, coordinating media efforts and planning events, as well as writing proclamations, press releases, news articles, newsletters, brochures, flyers, website copy and social media content. Serves as liaison for the Parks and Recreation Commission to local units of government, elected officials, and local agencies. Represents the Parks and Recreation Commission at meetings, gives presentations on Parks and Recreation services, projects, and programs. Provides materials and information to Parks and Recreation Commissioners and County Commissioners relating to Parks and Recreation department activities and meetings within their respective commissioner districts. Provides assistance to the Parks and Recreation Commission and Parks leadership in the drafting of reports, speeches, and correspondence. Performs research as requested. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments. May be required to work an adjusted schedule involving evening hours and/or weekends. 

Minimum Qualifications

At the time of application; applicant must:
1.      Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public administration, Political Science, Communications, or related area. 
2.      Have at least four (4) years of full-time work experience in public administration, legislative activities, communications, or related area 
NOTE: A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the areas outlined above may substitute for one (1) year of the work experience. 
NOTE: Applicants posing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (http://naces.org/members.html). The degree evaluation will be required for application processing. 
3.      Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification. 
4.      Successfully complete the six (6) month probationary period.
