Job Summary
Participates in evaluating planning deliverables for alignment with Parks and Recreation organizational core values which include diversity, equity and inclusion; health and wellness; environmental sustainability and natural resources stewardship; fiscal responsibility and organizational excellence. Assists with public engagement activities including surveys, focus groups, and meetings with community partners. Provides on-site planning assistance to park staff and local community partners in parks and recreation-related efforts. Prepares and implements specific sections of a planning project within Parks and Recreation. Analyzes defined planning issues and develops specific related goals and objectives. Assists in designing and implementing planning projects and strategies, and monitoring and evaluating them. Applies methodologies to planning and special projects specifically relating to legal requirements and practices for implementation. As assigned, performs research and analysis on new and emerging techniques for land use control and change management. May prepare impact analyses for basic submitted land use proposals and issues, master plan elements and other special studies. Assists in the preparation of economic, demographic, transportation, land use, environmental, recreation and housing studies for county and sub-area planning purposes. Prepares reports and makes recommendations on less complex rezoning proposals and master plans. Participates as a presenter at project related meetings. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments. 

May be required to work an adjusted schedule involving evening hours and/or weekends to attend municipal Boards and related project meetings or activities.

Minimum Qualifications

At the time of application, applicant must:

1. Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Planning, Public Administration, Parks and Recreation, Resource Management, Stewardship, Sustainability, Landscape Architecture, Geography, Ecology or a related field.

2. Have had at least one (1) year of full-time, progressively responsible work experience in city, county or regional planning, private consulting planning, or other closely related professional planning experience.

NOTE: Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (http://naces.org/members.html). The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.

NOTE: A Master's Degree in one of the above fields listed in number 1 above for each function may be substituted for the work experience listed in number 2 above for each function.

3. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Out of Country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before the hire date.

4. Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.

5. Successfully complete the six month probationary period.
