Construction Specialist - Transportation Engineer 3

The Opportunity
WSDOT Northwest Region (NWR) is looking to hire two Construction Specialists in Shoreline, WA. This position manages the assessment, review, and processing of construction documentation to help ensure timely and accountable delivery of transportation system projects. The successful candidate in this position will be responsible for managing deadlines and balancing competing priorities of multiple Construction offices as well as requests from NWR and Headquarters Management.
 
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Construction Specialist will:
  • Ensure the delivery of construction contracts are in accordance with the Plans, Specifications, Construction Manual, and applicable State and Federal requirements. 
  • Interpret and apply information from the WSDOT manuals and publications, and state and federal laws. 
  • Ensure record keeping and documentation for construction projects are in accordance with all current laws, policies, guidelines, and procedures. 
  • Work independently to solve complex highway engineering contract issues and other issues.
  • Interpret and apply engineering calculations and computer systems.
  • Evaluate change orders for proper procedure and make recommendations to the Project Office and Engineering Manager.
  • Conduct contract material and documentation reviews.
  • Frequently communicate online and by telephone with staff throughout WSDOT and occasional interactions with FHWA or other State Agencies. 
 
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • One (1) year of experience as a Transportation Engineer 2 or equivalent 
Experience with:
  • Communicating in speech and writing effectively with intended audiences
  • Reviewing and interpreting and/or producing technical documents
  • Understanding and interpreting engineering calculations and computer systems
  • Interpreting and applying information from various manuals and publications, and state and federal laws
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Engineer 2 or equivalent 
  • Familiarity with the FHWA stewardship agreement
  • Knowledge of WSDOT’s office engineering tasks and functions

  • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
