WHAT YOU'LL DO

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform specialized clerical duties in a student services area such as registration, record maintenance, financial assistance, EOPS, veterans' benefits, disabled student services and counseling services.
The current vacancy is a full-time position (12 mos/year, 40 hrs/week) located at Ventura College. There is also a part-time bilingual vacancy (12 mos/year, 16 hrs/week) at Oxnard College anticipated in the near future.

Established in 1925, Ventura College was one of the first community colleges in California and currently has an enrollment of 14,500 students. Located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, the 112-acre campus is set in the rolling hills of Ventura - so close to the ocean that there is a clear view of the Channel Islands from several spots on campus.

SALARY PLACEMENT

New Employees: Generally, new employees are placed on the first step of the appropriate range of the salary schedule.

In addition to the 8% salary increase already reflected in the bulletin, the Board of Trustees has approved a 4% increase set for 7/31/2023.

This recruitment is being conducted to establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill district-wide, current and upcoming, temporary and regular vacancies for the duration of the list, not to exceed one year.

Representative Duties
Provide assistance and information to students regarding records, registration, EOPS, veterans benefits, Financial Aid, Disabled Student Services or Counseling services. E

Instruct students in correct procedures for completion of forms and applications; explain applications, requirements and restrictions; review completed forms for completeness. E

Serve as clerical support for a student services program including receptionist, typing and data entry duties. E

Process applications and forms; review records for changes in status; request transcripts, records and other information needed to determine status of applications and forms. E

Prepare and transmit correspondence for students; verify student status and other related information; respond to requests from educational institutions and agencies; provide information and verification of student status and records. E

Maintain confidential records and files. E

Respond to requests for information from District officials, faculty, and students. E

Monitor student progress to assure program compliance as directed; assist students in a variety of ways according to program needs. E

Operate computer terminal to update student records, generate reports and verify student information. E

Prepare letters and other correspondence. E

Resolve issues involving student applications, forms and records; prepare, verify and distribute payments to students as assigned.

Assist in training and providing work direction and guidance to student workers and other staff in assigned area of student services.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and three years of clerical experience involving frequent public contact.

EXAMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS: This is an examination open to the public and current district employees seeking a promotional opportunity. WRITTEN/PERFORMANCE TEST DATE RANGE AND LOCATION:

Date Range: 12/12/2022 - 12/18/2022

Location: All candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be emailed a link to the test on Monday, December 12, 2022 and will have until 11:59pm on Sunday, December 18, 2022 to complete the test. In order to participate in the written/performance test, you must have access to a computer and a reliable connection to the internet.

The top candidates with the highest passing scores on the written/performance test will be invited to the technical interview.

TECHNICAL INTERVIEW DATE RANGE AND LOCATION: Date Range: 01/09/2023 - 01/13/2023Location: The Technical Interview will be conducted remotely, using Zoom. In order to participate in the interview, you must have access to a computer with a camera, microphone, speakers, and a reliable connection to the internet. The examination components and dates are subject to change as needs dictate. All communication regarding this process will be delivered via email. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION:

ELIGIBILITY LIST: Upon completion of the examination, the eligibility list will be compiled by combining the final examination score with applicable seniority and veteran's credits, if any. The candidates will be ranked according to their total score on the eligibility list. Certification will be made from the highest three ranks of the eligibility list. This eligibility list will be used to fill current vacancies for up to one year from the date of the technical interview. PROBATIONARY PERIOD: All appointments made from eligibility lists for initial appointment or for promotion, with certain exceptions, shall be probationary for a period of six (6) months or one hundred thirty (130) days of paid service, whichever is longer. Classified management, police, and designated executive classifications shall be probationary for a period of one (1) year of paid service from initial appointment or promotion.
