Sociology and Cultural Anthropology Editorial Internship, Spring 2023

About the internship
W. W. Norton is looking for interns to participate in our twelve-week internship program. Our internship program provides participants with an engaging, supportive, and hands-on learning experience in publishing that includes brown bag lunch sessions and networking within the intern class. Your work if you become a Norton intern with the print and media sociology and cultural anthropology team may include the following:
·      Assisting with the preparation and review of chapter manuscripts and digital media resources for college sociology and cultural anthropology textbooks such as You May Ask Yourself (8th edition), Introduction to Sociology (13th edition), Essentials of Sociology (9th edition), The Family (4th edition), Families as They Really Are (4th edition), The Real World (9th edition), American Society (3th edition)
·      Reviewing textbook chapter proofs during different stages of production for style consistency
·      Assisting with the preparation of manuscripts and creating art logs and manuscripts for new editions
·      Identifying revised content in new editions and indicating them in coded spreadsheets
·      Editing, organizing, and formatting media materials such as test bank manuscripts, lecture PowerPoints, dynamic data figures, and Norton Teaching Tools
·      Reviewing InQuizitive questions and using a coded spreadsheet to log questions that need changes
·      Writing alt text for images and figures that appear in new editions
·      Executing marketing projects on a case-by-case basis

Why you’ll be a great fit
We are excited to add interns who bring diverse perspectives to Norton. The ideal candidate is curious, hardworking, and eager to learn more about the different facets of publishing. Here are some skills and qualities we look for in candidates:
·      You are a college junior, senior, or recent graduate.
·      You have a specific interest in sociology and/or cultural anthropology.
·      You want to learn about college textbook publishing.
·      You have taken college-level courses in sociology or cultural anthropology (as a major/minor is a plus).
·      You are eager to improve your verbal and written communication skills.
·      You enjoy collaborating and working in a group to solve challenges.
·      You have a passion for learning and ideas.
·      You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Internship details
·      Interns are paid $15 per hour and work a maximum of 20 hours weekly.
·      Internship period is twelve weeks from 2/6/23-4/28/23.
·      Our workday is 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time; specific work hours are flexible to accommodate an intern’s schedule.
·      For interns who reside within commuting distance of the office, this internship will be in-person in our Manhattan offices; those in other locations will work remotely.
·      Eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
