The Police Department has been recognized as a model of excellence in the delivery of local law enforcement services. The Coral Gables Police Department is comprised of 198 sworn police officers who serve within the Office of the Chief of Police, three operational divisions, and two support services divisions.

Qualifications:
- 21 years of age (Candidates may apply 6 months prior to their 21st birthday)
- US Citizen
- High school diploma or equivalent GED.
- 54 college credits or 3 years of full-time continuous military service
The Selection Process:
The duration of the selection process is approximately 2 to 5 months. The process involves the following: (1) Online application, (2) Supplemental Packet (includes testing) (3) Police Oral Board (4) Background Investigation (5) Polygraph exam (6) Suitability exam, and (7) Physical Exam and Drug Screening
