Test Software Engineer

Team Overview:
The Systems Integration and Test team is focused on early stage product development, systems integration, and test programs. Every team member is exposed to a wide variety of problems and can quickly architect, develop, and prototype novel product ideas to test market feasibility. On this team, you will work closely with customers to achieve their end goals while helping develop company infrastructure to improve project outputs as we continue to grow.

Job Overview:
As a Systems Integration/Test Software Engineer, you will own the development, maintenance, and deployment of SOE's software library for custom test equipment. Additionally, you would support project work and internal infrastructure as our team grows.

What You Will Do:
  • Design and implement tools and common platforms that enable our team members to run development tests
  • Work with customers to develop requirements and plan out test campaigns to help ensure their mission success
  • Design, assemble, and test custom hardware/electrical systems for our customers.
  • Automate testing and data analysis with software to accelerate our testing cadence
  • Work with data acquisition systems and control systems to continually improve in-test data recording and usability of the system
  • Process, analyze, and review test data sets to ensure that hardware is operating as expected
  • Identify and integrate new test equipment into our facilities
  • Work on software for systems integration projects including rapid prototyping, proof of concept, and early stage designs

What You Will Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (e.g., Software Engineering, Science, Technology)
  • 2+ years experience in a software engineering or software design, or engineering role (including internship, curricular, and project team experience)
  • Experience with object-oriented programming in Python
  • Proven track record of project ownership
  • High level of autonomy when solving problems with a willingness to seek out knowledge and assistance when needed
  • Excellent communication skills for interfacing with internal engineering teams and external suppliers and customers
  • Experience with progressing through the software development lifecycle, using shared repositories and version control to protect and organize development.
  • Experience in supporting, maintaining, and documenting software functionality

What Would Be Useful:
  • Experience with reading and understanding mechanical drawings, datasheets and technical manuals, engineering reports, and electrical schematics
  • Experience with control system logic (PID, PLC) for interfacing with test equipment and hardware
  • Experience with data acquisition hardware and software in hands-on testing environments
  • Experience with initial hardware deployment and bringup, ensuring hardware and software interfaces mesh correctly
  • Experience with Unix/Linux systems, with emphasis on multicore systems and/or lightweight embedded systems
  • Experience with hands-on assembly of basic mechanical systems for customer or internal use
