Description:
Publishers Weekly, the leading B2B news and reviews platform servicing the publishing industry, is seeking a Nonfiction Reviews Editor with impeccable editing and writing skills. Under the direction of the Executive Editor, this individual will primarily be responsible for assigning and editing pre-publication reviews of nonfiction books, assigning and editing author interviews, and contributing to our twice-yearly announcements issues, and other features, as needed.
The Nonfiction Reviews Editor will be required to work in PW’s New York City office a minimum of one day per week and can work remotely the rest of the time.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Assign and edit reviews of nonfiction books for daily publication on publishersweekly.com and in the weekly print edition of Publishers Weekly
  • Assign and edit author interviews
  • Manage a team of freelance reviewers and recruit new reviewers, as required
  • Generate feature story ideas based on upcoming books
  • Contribute to announcements issues (season previews), as well as reviews-driven features including Best Books, Summer Reads, and Holiday Gift Guide.

Experience/Skills:
  • 3+ years editing experience, ideally in both digital and print environments
  • Exceptional editing skills, with ability to rewrite copy quickly and accurately
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines 
  • Experience using InCopy/K4, and custom CMSs is ideal, but not required
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of the book publishing industry is a big plus
